These have more aggressive tread than my previous trail runners- at first I thought it might be overkill, but they are excellent. Very grippy but still very light, and they have a strong footbed- when I run over rocks they do not dig into my feet. They are true to size (perhaps a touch long) and were comfy right out of the box. They are supportive and my foot feels very secure in them. They are not the most shock-absorbing shoes I have owned (I suspect the rigid outsole has something to do with that) but they are easily the best trail running shoes I have purchased. If you have knee/joint concerns and are buying these for running (if you just want shoes for walking the cushion is great) I might look at the wildcat by La Sportiva- I personally have not tried them, but my understanding is that they are a little more cushy, but are not as aggressive. Anyways- very good shoe and I am really happy with them. I will definitely be buying more shoes from La Sportiva in the future.
