Customer Reviews Of:
Lafayette 148 New York Excelsior Wool Wrap Sweater (For Women)
Closeouts. Start imagining the simply glorious texture of this extra-fine knit of Italian merino wool and cashmere. Lafayette 148 New York's Excelsior wool wrap comes to a stylish zip closure at the side, with voluminous shawl collar giving the suggestion of a hood.
Reviewed by Beth from Portland OR on Sunday, March 3, 2013The tag on this sweater says "new wool" and cashmere, and it doesn't feel like merino to me. It's a little scratchier than I expected, but manageable.
I thought the zipper would be the closure on a wrap sweater, but this zipper is for looks only. The sweater is sewn together at the zipper, and if you unzip it, it just exposes about 1" of sweater underneath. Having said that, I like the way it looks. I can see that the collar could be problematic, but it works for me. I am tall, and a little busty, so I don't feel that it is too much fabric. I had to roll the collar over itself a couple times, though, to take up the slack. The part of the collar that goes under the other one, is sewn over by the under-armpit, not by the waist. So, it is more horrizontal that I think it should be.
I wear a M or L in tops. This was only available as a M when I bought it, but now that the L is back in stock, I will order that one before I make a decision. The medium fits fine, and if I didn't intend to wash it by hand, it would probably be fine. But the upper arms are none too loose (and I'm not very bulky), and I'm worried it will be to small after the first wash. We'll see after I get the L.

Verified Buyer Reviewed by STP DC from DC on Tuesday, January 22, 2013I have purchased several beautiful Lafayette 148 New York sweaters, and this one has similar high-quality material and stitching. The side zipper style was nice, and the sweater would have been beautiful, but the shawl collar was so large and floppy on me that the overall effect was unattractive. Might work for you if you are broad-shouldered or big-busted, but if you are narrower, there is just too much material.
