This is my first Lamson reel. It has a beautiful finish and appears to be very well made (in Idaho). I have it spooled up with backing and line and am ready to get it wet.

A very good reel at a very good price. I bought this as a birthday gift for my wife to use with her bamboo rod, and she is pleased as well.

I just paddled my kayak in from my inaugural use of a new rod and the Lamson 1.5. I loaded it with #4 floating line and rigged a large wooly [...] on about 12 feet of leader and tippet. Hooked and landed some nice 2-3lb largemouth bass and the reel performed flawlessly. When the fish took off I was able to experience the reel's drag, which was both smooth and consistent in applying pressure. Very very happy with the reel. Sierra Trading Post's competitive pricing made it an excellent value.

What a great deal on the Lamson reel! This is my second Lamson and I am pleased to have found the deal. My old 4wt was 14 years old and needed to be replaced. I have loaded my new reel with a new Scientific Anglers fly line (purchased from Sierra Trading Post in another good deal). I look forward to getting years of great service from this new reel on the streams of North Carolina and Georgia.

It was my good fortune to recently purchase a Lamson Guru fly reel to mate with my Matt Schliske bamboo fly rod. The Guru has to be one of the best bargains out there in the fly fishing world. Fit and finish are excellent and the performance of the reel is smooth which allows great accuracy and placement of even the lightest dry flies. During my test here in Northern New Mexico, I did experience some icing of the reel due to freezing conditions on the river. However, this is not the reel's fault, nor a reason to pass on the outstanding fly reel.

About Lamson

When Lamson designers and engineers set about to revolutionize fly fishing reels, they threw out the existing assumptions and started from scratch. Beginning with a blank piece of paper, they re-designed, re-thought, and re-tooled fly fishing reels to achieve a crucial balance and optimal performance. Lighter materials like titanium and polymers took the place of steel, wood and cork. Simplified designs meant fewer components, lighter weight and amazing longevity. Along the way, Lamson shaved so much weight from the reel that larger, better-retrieving arbors were incorporated into the design. They topped off their list of impressive advancements with a high performance, conical polymer alloy drag system. The result? Precisely machined fly fishing reels constructed from space age materials that are so light, they seem to defy gravity.
