Excellent productVerified Buyer Reviewed by Vishious Fishious from Atlanta, Georgia on Thursday, August 9, 2018I have only used this a few times but so far I have been impressed with the performance of this reel. It’s Lamson so it’s expected! Headed to Oregon soon for Steelhead so we will see. Well worth the money.
FisherVerified Buyer Reviewed by Chukar from Colorado on Monday, August 6, 2018Good reel for the price.
Light and smoothVerified Buyer Reviewed by Orfisher from Oregon on Monday, February 12, 2018I bought the reel for saltwater, I have not used it yet, but it seems like a well built reel.
A top notch choice at a great priceVerified Buyer Reviewed by Rubbed Raw from Massachusetts on Monday, April 24, 2017Lamson is an iconic name in American made fly reels and this is one of their flagship models at great price. 2016 Yellowstone Shootout ranked this reel #6 out of 32 reels tested.
Great reelVerified Buyer Reviewed by Jerry the Fisherman from Washington on Thursday, April 20, 2017Superb quality, precision made. This is an excellent reel.
Lots of CapacityVerified Buyer Reviewed by Big fish Fun Hog from Montana on Tuesday, April 18, 2017This reel has a lot of capacity and is quite light for its size. I beat up a lot of equipment thru heavy use so will have to wait to see if it is tough enough for that kind of use.
lamson elitespeed 3 series IV fly reelVerified Buyer Reviewed by bjp from Montana on Monday, April 10, 2017Overall a really great reel. have it paired with a 10ft 6wt rod and it works fine. Drag is easily adjustable and can be set ultra light or very resistant. Overall build quality seems perfect. sealed drag keeps all the junk out. Large arbor picks up line quickly doesn't allow the line to hold a curl. Only complaint is that is seems a bit light. if you are looking for a perfect balance go at least a size up, or choose a heavier reel.
Lamson LitespeedVerified Buyer Reviewed by Linda from California on Sunday, April 9, 2017This is a fantastic reel! I can't say enough good about it. Then there is the great price from Sierra trading Post. How can you go wrong.
lamson waterworksVerified Buyer Reviewed by Nick from ohio on Wednesday, March 8, 2017This reel is phenominal. Well machined and very light with super smooth drag.
Finally Have a Lamson ReelVerified Buyer Reviewed by Tinker from Tinker on Monday, February 13, 2017The Lamson Litespeed Series IV finished first in the Yellowstone Angler fly-reel shootout a couple of years back, and caught my interest - but I'm a tightwad, and $350 for a fly reel is way too rich for my tastes.
This is a fantastic price for a very, very good reel.
The amount of drag this reel can put on the line is surprising. To get that amount of drag force to engage so smoothly, and remain as smooth throughout it's range, as Lamson managed to do with the Litespeed is amazing.
The machining is excellent. The tolerances are excellent. There isn't a flaw to be found anywhere on this reel.
However, the 3 size reel is a somewhat larger than one might expect. It's listed here as a 6/7/8 weight reel. It's closer to an 8wt than it is to a 6wt or even a 7wt reel, and seating the foot is a bit of a tight squeeze for a 7wt rod - and might not fit the reel seat of a 6wt rod.
For me, that's not worth deducting a star for an excellent Made in the USA fly reel.
