I agree with description and other reviews that indicate this is best worn under a suit jacket to give it shape. I like this style of trench coat without epaulettes and belt. The fabric feels nice and water beads on it rather than soaking in for the limited periods I've been in the rain so far.

My suit size is 38L and I got this coat in 40L based on advice in other reviews. This size is perfect. (In the case of an overcoat, I'm not sure if this counts as 'true to size').

I live in a generally mild climate. I will wear a polarfleece vest underneath whenever it gets as cold as five degrees Celsius.

    Quite disappointed in this coat.
Runs small and it's more like a shell without lining.
My husband has short arms and all suits & coats have to be altered to shorten the sleeves - in this coat the sleeves were too short.
It also doesn't have any shape - possibly the jacket with padded shoulders worn underneath will make it look better - but there is no room for a jacket .It was already too small over a T-shirt - so sizing up would have to be 2 sizes bigger - which isn't available.
This is very subpar for this brand.

I was concerned it might not have enough room over a sport coat or suit jacket, but it actually fits quite well. Perfect for what I use it for.

Like the other reviewer, I believe this runs small. I am a 42R and I would have thought allowances would be made considering it is meant to be worn over the suit - it is so snug that it makes putting on and taking off frustrating. The liner is not slick enough to allow you to slide in without pulling your suit around. I am returning it and may get a 44R instead.

About Lauren by Ralph Lauren

Born and raised in the Bronx, Ralph Lauren began to cultivate an appreciation for men’s fashion at an early age. After spending two years in the army, he soon secured a job for Brooks Brothers. By the age of 26, he had begun making his own ties using repurposed fabric, selling his wares to small shops and boutiques. After securing a backer in 1967, Ralph Lauren opened his first store, which quickly grew into a full-fledged fashion label. The rest, as they say, is history. Today, Lauren by Ralph Lauren suits are still synonymous with impeccable, modern style and Lauren by Ralph Lauren dresses remain on the cutting edge of fashion.
