May be Defective?

I had never used trekking poles, so bought a pair of trekking poles from an outdoor store. The length adjustment was screw-in to tighten, and it was hard to adjust and failed to hold if you didn't tighten just right. That could be a big problem. When I returned the poles, a clerk at the store advised me to get ones with a locking mechanism. I looked on STP and saw they had lots of great choices for less money than the store, duh. I narrowed down to two. I ended up keeping the other pair, 8759W. because the bottom locking mechanism on one of the Leki poles failed a few times when trying them around the house!
