This is an excellent device! Tucks easily into a pocket, but could save your life in a pinch. So easy to use! Verified Buyer Reviewed by NC Outdoors from NC on Tuesday, April 24, 2018I have never been able to make a campfire with one of these but they do make lots of sparks! My kids have been more successful and have enjoyed starting campfires with these. Make sure to have some very fine very dry tinder. The nice thing about these firestarters is that they work even if they get wet. Cool!
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Bushcraft Lee from Atlanta, GA on Monday, December 25, 2017The Scout model is a lighter and more compact version of the Army model ferrocerium fire starter, and is a handy alternative size that can be carried more conveniently in a pocket. (The Army model does seem to generate more sparks and has a longer service life) With suitable dry tinder, it is easy enough to build a fire with this fire starter that works at all altitudes and all weather conditions. Don't leave home without it.

“Is this product legal for commercial flights?”
I think you need to check with the airline you are flying. You have to strike them together to get a spark, so if you pack it in checked luggage, it may be fine.
“This description is very poor. "Firesteel"... this is not a real thing, this is an arbitrary name the company gave their metal. I wan to know if this is made out of magnesium or actually made out of steel? Thanks a million!||Jeff”
The name "FireSteel" comes directly from Light My Fire and I agree it can be a little confusing, but the fire starter is made of magnesium. Enjoy!
