It is true what it says on the web site, a half size smaller than what you usually wear will fit perfectly.

Verified Buyer Reviewed by Ginny from Idaho mountain ranges on Tuesday, March 29, 2016This is my first pair of Lowa hiking boots and I was very apprehensive about ordering them online, as I have a narrow foot and from the description it seemed this was more appropriate footwear for bigger and wider feet. The reviews were great, but again, it was highly recommended (by the website as well) to order a smaller size. Nonetheless, I am a size 7 foot and I took the chance and ordered the last pair of size 7. I fully expected to be disappointed and return them after trying them on. This was, happily, not the case! The fit is perfect, the comfort is top level and the materials were definitely superior quality than you get with a mid priced shoe. My husband and I are avid mountain hikers; seeking difficult terrain, with some scrambling. We always hike our home state of Idaho and the Tetons are regular tromping ground. We hike and bike Moab, Zion, Yellowstone and the mountains we are so fortunate to live right in! I would say these boots will be the welcome addition to my hiking gear and I feel ready to take on the mountain trails and they will go the distance because they are so light -not heavy klunkers. Now, the question remains...where will we go next??

Verified Buyer Reviewed by Angela the Dancer from San Luis Obispo on Saturday, February 6, 2016I really wanted these boots to fit me. I wore them around the house with my insoles hoping the boots would stretch, but my little toes were not happy. I even brought them to a shoe store and asked if it would be possible to stretch them, but they said it is not guaranteed because of the hard rubber surface around the front/side of the boot. I was so sad to send them back. When I was at the shoe store I had my feet measured properly and they indicated I need a wide toe box. So, anyone with a normal/narrow foot would be happy with this boot. I normally wear a size 6 street shoe, but ordered 6.5 and that size would have been perfect had it been 1/4" wider. Boo hoo!
Verified Buyer Reviewed by MtnGrl from PA on Thursday, February 4, 2016Very good quality boot, fits true to size with hiking socks. Very sturdy but comfortable and more cushion than in other hiking boots of this type. Wore them right out of the box for a 2hr winter hike, good support with not hotspots and no leaks.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Prof. Allison from Minnesoda on Tuesday, January 26, 2016When I took these out of the box I could hardly believe the craftsmanship of them. They are WELL MADE. This is why I bought them; I am so tired of buying boots from companies that outsource their labor to China and other places. I've had too many pairs that fall apart far too fast and the quality is never consistent (my last pair of "high quality" vasques fell apart within a year and half). I have really wide feet and so was paranoid they would not fit since all Sierra had to offer was B width. But they fit! Part of this is due to the fact that the lacing system and tongue afford a lot of room-- if I had narrower feet, I could easily lace them tighter at the bottom and they would fit. I will probably go for a wide next time-- but I honestly think it will be years before there is a "next time" since I fully believe these will last a long time. I love the locking laces.
I was able to wear them straight out of the box and haven't developed any hot spots. Admittedly the most I've worn them is for 3 miles and have yet to take them on a long hike. I will update this when I do. These boots are rather heavy duty-- so if you are looking for a pair of light boots, these are probably not for you.
I bought these since I needed a new pair of hiking/backpacking boots, and I just moved to Minnesota for a job. I needed boots to walk to work in lots of snow. So I got these to try to cover both needs (the boots go well above the ankles). I wear a double layer of wool socks for my walk on especially cold days, but surprisingly don't need to take a pair off when I get to work. The leather breaths really well and my socks don't get wet from sweat as they do with my other (also leather) boots.

These are wide boots as I also have a wide foot, but they do seem to be true to size as I wear a 7 and they fit perfect with midweight hiking socks. There is a just a little bit of room from toe to front of boot not more than half inch though. Hope this helps

Hmmmmm. I did not notice that the Achilles comfort tab could come out; I'm pretty sure it was sewn in. Unfortunately, I was not able to purchase the boots or else I could check for you. This boot is more suited for narrow feet.
