Obtained these boots just in the nick of time for an arctic front that blew into town. Wore a simple wool sock in 10 degree weather and feet stayed toasty warm. Very lightweight, amazing grip on very slippy surfaces; snow packed trail, grates in the city, even on wet grocery store linoleum! Not a lo... Read More

These boots are comfortable and seem completely waterproof. They are also quite striking... a great boot! One thing I would mention is that they are not really suitable as 'hiking boots' as there is little arch support in the foot. I added an insole and they are much better.

ALSO - these really do run large - I normally take a 7 and the 6.5 is plenty roomy!

I am absolutely delighted with the Lowa Lavaia Hi boots. Since receiving them (in record time, I might add), I have barely taken them off. They are instantly warm on my feet, even with trouser socks, and do not overheat. STP is right on about ordering a half-size smaller; I've always been a solid size 10, but a 9-1/2 in these works perfectly. They are European-made, which is a huge plus in my book. I like the taller shaft height, and lacing them up is not a chore at all. It allows me to adjust the fit depending on the layers I'm wearing. I haven't even had to put on Yak Trax with these boots, the grippy sole is that solid and reliable- a first in my winter boot experience! Snow falls right out of the treads, so I don't track it indoors. The slimmer style makes for comfortable driving, too, unlike my big clunky pac boots. I was concerned about keeping the light-colored suede clean, but that hasn't been a problem. Water and slush just beads up on the surface and I can shake or wipe it off. I walk A LOT- upwards of 5 miles a day in town and on trails with my dog- and we have a very long winter, so good boots are key. These boots are the best performers I have owned so far. I hope they last a very long time!

I got these boots a few months ago, and we just started getting some real snow in the Denver area, so I've put my new boots to the test only recently. And woooeeeee, are they performing! Like some women have previously mentioned, putting these on and taking them off is a commitment. These are NOT slip-on-and-grab-the-firewood boots or -let-the-dogs-out boots. They are, however, amazing for a longer or all-day romp through snow, slush and ice. I have marched through calf-high powder snow, city slush, muddy puddles and all of the other snowy city hazards (as well as snowy hiking trails) with ease these last few weeks. My feet stay dry and warm, as do my legs. Like, toasty. The soles are grippy, and great for snowy walks. STP recommended I order a HALF SIZE DOWN, and boy am I glad I listened! I wear a true 9.5, and ordered a 9, and the 9 fits perfectly, even with thicker socks. I'm 5'7", and I have long, larger calves (thanks hiking!) and these boots fit my legs, even with a pair of skinny jeans tucked inside! Thanks Lowa! Seriously great boots, amazing quality, and I get compliments on them all the time. (Thank you Sierra Trading Post as well, especially for your amazing customer service!)

These are a pain to get on -you do need to loosen the laces all the way down the boot to get them on, and then again to get them off (but, luckily, they are then loosened for the next time you need to wear them). I live in the mountains outside Denver & don't bother with them when I have to run out quickly for firewood or other reasons. However, they are comfortable for all day wear and they keep my feet warm when it is really cold outside. I love these & would buy them again.

Ordered these boots for my granddaughter away at school up north. She hasn't used them for a winter yet but so far is very impressed. We ordered her normal size and they were a little big, but she feels heavy socks will take care of the extra room.

  • “Does this boot have a heel? The specs indicated yes, but I am looking for flat boots. These look like nice, stable flats from the picture. also, I wear a 10D, so should I stick with a 10 or the 9.5?”
Asked by Ginger from Hartford, CT on 10/7/2015 10:02:25 PM
    • The heel does go up a bit. We recommend ordering 1/2 size smaller.

  • “I typically wear an 8 or 8.5, size 38. Should I get the 7.5 or 8?”
Asked by Emily from Chicago on 9/30/2015 9:00:32 AM
    • We recommend ordering 1/2 size smaller. In this case I would recommend ordering according to what size you most often wear in boots.

    • My granddaughter normally wears an 8 1/2. Based on the reviews we weren't sure which way to. We ordered an 8 1/2 and with heavy socks she thinks they are fine. If you normally wear an 8, that may work well for you.

  • “Does the tongue have a gusset so the moisture doesn't get in? And if so, how high up does it go? Thanks!”
Asked by depotlady from Colorado on 2/3/2015 7:03:51 AM
    • The tongue has a gusset up to the fifth shoelace hole, which comes up to the bend in your ankle. I suspect it would be more difficult to remove if it went any higher. I've walked a few miles in deep snow and have stayed dry and warm.
Answered on 2/3/2015 7:38:20 AM by Greenmountain from green mountains
    • The tongue has a gusset that ends about three inches above the ankle bone. The rest of the tongue is about four inches wide, and this is plenty to keep the front of my legs covered. These boots do seem to work best for slender lower legs, though, so if you are of a sturdier build from the knee down, there may be some exposure. Hope this helps.

    • The boots tie snug around your leg so moisture will not get in, but the tongue stands alone with no gusset.

  • “Hello, I am wondering if the top/cuff of these boots can also be unfolded so the faux fur lining is not exposed? If so, does the suede continue all the way up to the top of the boot? Thanks!”
Asked by Md from Oregon on 12/7/2014 5:37:46 PM
    • Hi! Yes, the top cuff can be unfolded, and the suede goes all the way up. There is an eyelet at the top so you can lace the boot clear to the top.

  • “I wear European 39, and have a mid/wide foot -- what size is recommended? Also, I plan to wear these for hiking and snowshoeing, do they have appropriate, durable and safe soles that will be comfortable for multiple hours outside? Thank you.”
Asked by Shawn from Vermont on 11/14/2014 10:05:22 AM
    • I wear a Euro size 41 usually, and also have a slightly wide foot. I bought a size 9 in these, and they fit very well, with room for thicker socks. They have a very sturdy sole, and I think they should hold up well for hiking and snowshoeing. The suede outer may scuff from the snowshoe bindings, but if that isn't an issue, I would say these ought to be wonderful. I spent a full day in them recently, mostly outside, and I love them. Warm and comfy.
