I had some unusual and very specific requirements for a small backpack and found a nearly perfect solution with this one. I am not a kid, but this pack fits me just fine. I cinch the shoulder straps up so the pack rides as high as possible on my back because I wear it while riding my horse. This keeps the pack from hitting the back of my saddle. I needed a combination of a small compartment for ID and car key, a medium size compartment for dog-walking supplies, and a large compartment for water bottles and other bulky things. I also wanted a belt at the bottom of the pack that I can tighten up to keep the pack from bouncing around when my horse gallops. This pack checks all the boxes and adds other very useful things like a chest strap with a whistle (great idea!), mesh pockets with side compression straps on both sides of the pack--the straps can be used to compress the pack if you are carrying something bulky inside, and/or they can help corral anything tall that you've placed in the mesh pockets. The shoulder straps are lightly padded, with airy mesh to keep you cooler, and they are cut with an inward curve to help prevent them rubbing against the insides of your arms. The back of the pack contains a stiff, padded panel so the pack holds its shape, and on the outside of the back are three well-placed, external mesh-covered 3-D pads so air can flow between the pack and your back for cool comfort. The fabric, piping, stitching, hardware and smooth, sturdy zippers are high quality--the zipper pulls are especially nice, super easy to grasp. There is an organizer section in the mid-sized compartment, with six flat pockets of different sizes, including one that is zippered, and a lanyard for your keys. The main compartment has a elastic-topped pocket inside on the back that could hold a water bladder, and there is an opening on the side panel of the compartment for the bladder hose to exit, with an elastic guide on the shoulder strap so you can route the hose over your shoulder. The bottom of the pack is made of a sturdier fabric, for durability, and there is also a well-designed grab strap at the top of the pack so you can easily snatch it up. All in all, this pack is an awesome deal--exactly the kind of thing I come to Sierra Trading Post hoping to find!

We bought this for our son. It is larger than most backpacks I would buy for myself. My husband (215 lbs) wore it and it was only slightly small on him as a day pack. Good pack in general but not even close to kids sized.

This looked to be a really well made pack but it wouldn't fit a regular sized school folder so it was too small and I had to return it. I thought about keeping it for myself. Loved the pink color.
