But the smell...

Bought this to replace another jute/PER mat that I've loved but is finally falling apart. I've been doing yoga for over a decade, and have never encountered a mat that smells like this. I've heard Manduka mats smell from the natural rubber, but this thing is made of PER! The smell is of chemicals-- like some sort of off-gassing adhesive. Verdict is out on the texture, as while the jute is nice and firm, the PER itself is far slipperier than my previous mat. Regardless, I am returning it because whatever that smell is does not seem like a healthy thing to be rubbing up against on a daily basis. I could unroll it and let it air for a few days, but I'd rather a mat that doesn't start out smelling like chemicals in the first place.
