This is the first time I've tried this brand of boot. As an archaeologist, I go through boots quickly. I loved these boots as soon as I set eyes on them. They're extremely comfortable. They look bulky and heavy but are quite the opposite. I wear them on 10 hour shifts and have no problems with them ... Read More

Reviewed by Kris from Michigan on Thursday, July 18, 2013I found these boots to run more true to size than advertised. A half size smaller as advised was way too small, and my normal size was also too small. They seem to be a good quality boot as far as I can tell, but I'm out of sizes to try so I'm moving on to another boot.
Reviewed by Comfort Buyer from Brookline MA on Thursday, May 2, 2013I love these boots. I have wide toes and narrow heels, and these boots worked great for me.
I ordered my regular U.S. size. They seem true to size, but wider than any other boots I tried.
I like them especially because they are cushioned at the top and really comfortable around the ankles.
Reviewed by liz123 from Colorado on Friday, March 15, 2013I bought 4 pair of boots from STP and these were the Winners. The first time I wore them they were so comfortable I had them on for 12 hours with NO blisters, which is incredible for my feet. They are serious boots for the outdoors, I was climbing around land with ease. I feel like I can stand on the edge of a cliff with stability, super boots!

Verified Buyer Reviewed by hikermd from the north country on Saturday, October 27, 2012Got these exact boots at a mountaneering store 2 years ago and had to replace them. Found them at an excellent price at sierra trading post. They are perfect, soft, comfortable, very supportive and good arch support. Got 2 pairs.

“Just bought these recently. The left boot feels very comfortable with my thick socks on, but the right is tight, to the point where it feels like my foot is almost starting to fall asleep. Are they likely to stretch out at all, or do you advise moving up a half size? ”
Since the boots are leather they may stretch some, but in this case you may want to size up a half size.
If you hover your mouse over or click on the UK sizes the corresponding US shoe size will appear. I.E. UK Sizes Available: 5.5 (US: Size 7)
The insole length for the size 5.5 is 10".
“Am trying to decide between this boot in leather interior, and GTX. Would durability and breathability be better with leather interior? Assume the Nubuck can be waterproofed if need be? Any product recommendation/advice for waterproofing it? Am looking for coolest option - temp wise - as also hike in hot climates.”
My experience has been to go with the GTX. I hike in both hot and cold climates also. The problem I have found with waterproofing after the fact is that the seems are not sealed and the waterproofing takes away the breathability of the leather.
“I have relatively thin and bony feet and toes (some broken) that blister easily: I want to use these boots for all around short and long distance hiking on various terrains.||1/ Is the padding sufficient on the footbed and at the heel to impede blisters and/or can it be removed from the footbed in order to replace it with my own inner soles?|2/ I need make sure that there are NO seams on the inside of the top of the toe area--and that the goretex lining is not super stiff and scratchy-- to rub and blister my toes....|3/ I also want to know if the toe area is sufficiently roomy from top to bottom--that is on the inside from the top of the toe area to the footbed--or shallow....|4/My walking shoe size is normally an 8 1/2 or a 9; I usually wear smartwool type hiking socks or other wmarino wool socks a bit thicker. May I assume that the remaining euro 7.5 is a true 9?||thanks.||worldwalker”
There is not a lot of padding in the footbed of the boot. There is, however, a very roomy toe box. When I wore these with rather thin merino wool socks my big toe scraped a little, leaving a sore spot. I plan to wear thicker socks with these boots in the future.||I also have thin feet ("toothpicks", my doctor calls them....), and these boots fit snugly. My heel doesn't rise up, and they feel good and tight, except in the toe.||Good luck.
