Yes, it really is. I have two of these between my son and I and they have been to the Porkies, Philmont, AT, Manistee, on the Rifle, Au Sable, Pere Marquette and are heading up the the BWCA in amongst regular weekend camp outs. Great battery life, excellent brightness, very low weight, very easy to use. This is so small that it can fit in you pocket and go unnoticed. Because it uses a single AAA battery you can cary a spare and not notice the weight. Best part is the big button on top. It is easy to find and easy to use. I can click through all the settings quickly and decide the best level of lighting for the task at hand. I recommend you buy two it really is the best peice of gear I own next to my Golite Pinnacle 72L backpack.

Btw have replaced the battery in one of these since may of 2010. Did I say it has a great battery life?

Bought this to save weight as it uses 1 AA only. It works several weeks with each battery and only 1 AA as spare is plenty. I don't like headlamps that use weird batteries. I am surprised that after 3 years of Good use in The mountains, climbing, trekking, skiing and even biking it is still working and in Good shape. Is Good enough for its weight and bulk. Very happy, great value.

This light is extremely bright for its size and weight. It also has very good battery life. However, with these positives comes one big negative, it is hard to locate exactly which precise part of the switch needs to be pushed to turn it on and select the right intensity. The switch is large, but the exact place you push is quite small and difficult to locate.

I just got this headlamp for a backpacking trip. Since it was my first time using this lamp, I also brought a small battery powered lantern as a backup. Well it turned out that the batteries in the small lantern were dead and so I depended entirely on this headlamp! It worked out well.

On our trip, we backpacked up to our campsite and made camp and then we took daybacks up to the summit of the mountain. Since I wasn't sure when we would get back, I put this headlamp in my pocket just in case. It is just the perfect size for a carry-all-the-time light.

It is very small and light, which is perfect for backpacking. I do have some concerns about the plastic that holds the lamp to the headband and the switch does not seem like it will last forever, but the value seems to be there since I got it on sale.

For a light weight, small headlamp that runs on one battery you can't go wrong with this Mammut.
