Great fit

I bought these because I wanted color and a higher waterproof rating- my current pants have started to get heavy on wet days, absorbing vs. repelling the water.

I wanted a narrow fit at the hips, with room to move my legs without restriction. Because I snowboard and telemark, I want to be able to move freely; yet, I also don't want huge baggy clothing that seems to be a common cut in both women and men's ski pants these days.

Initially ordered the curry, which I though would have more gold in it- best description of color is firefighter yellow. It is bright, but fun. I wasn't sure I could pull it off and trying not to clash with my various jackets I also ordered the berry color. Once I had both on hand, I couldn't decide because both colors are pretty cool- so I am keeping them both. Yes, a bit indulgent, but they were on sale.

I also tried the Mammut Robella pants, which have more insulation, but same shell material. The Robella would definitely be warmer, but the fit was higher at the waist and fuller in the hips. Although I run cold, I hate getting overheated in my legs. I didn't like the overall fit of the Robella. The Vail pants have a thin layer of fleece for insulation, but are basically a shell. The Vail pants are both slimming while allowing freedom of movement.

There was a lot of comment on sizing- I am generally a 6 in pants and decided to go with the 8, which fits perfectly. These are cut for women who don't want a baggy ski pant, are not full in the hip area and are more on the athletic build end of the spectrum. I'm 5'5" and 130 if that helps anyone gauging size.

I haven't worn them skiing yet- it is August, but I'm psyched to go rock a bright yellow and vibrant pink pair of pants after 20 years of skiing in black.
  • Best Uses: Skiing snowboarding
