Verified Buyer Reviewed by Jimmie from Virginia on Thursday, January 5, 2017The jacket looked great and was warm. It shipped to the house with lightning speed. The only problem is I ordered a Lg and needed a XL. My fault.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Adam from Santa Cruz, CA on Friday, December 16, 2016I live in the coastal mountains of northern California and this jacket is awesome to put on in the chilly mornings. The insulation is great and warms you up quickly without over heating. Worn it in the rain too, does well with shedding a light drizzle but a down pour would not suffice.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Allen from No. Cal. on Saturday, December 3, 2016I'm delighted to have gotten this before they're all gone.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Swiss Army Bob from West Virginia on Thursday, September 29, 2016I bought this because I oftentimes wish I had a hood. It was much less expensive than a down jacket and I am rarely outside enough to warrant a down jacket anyway so this fit the bill perfectly. I bought a large (6'2", 190 lbs) and it fits great. I am almost looking forward to it getting cold out to wear it!
Reviewed by LW from Virginia on Thursday, June 9, 2016I read about the two different jackets and ordered the black on the off chance I would end up with the newer, lighter, and more packable version but ended up getting the older version with wrist and hood adjustments. It's heavier and warmer than what I expected/wanted, but my wife pulled the tags before I could send it back.
For what it's worth, it seems well constructed. The chest pocket is a definite plus and it fits well and true to size. I'm 6'4" 165 with 36" sleeve and the medium is a pretty good fit though the sleeves could be a hair longer.

The older version (with hood adjustments) is not highly compressible like down. The newer style version is much lighter and is a bit closer to down in terms of compressibility. I had both in my possession when I bought. The older version is a more substantial jacket with a fantastic good. It's also a bit longer in the torso and roomier in the chest then the newer version.
It will pack down fairly small. However there is no Pocket it packs into like some other specific packable jackets. You could put it into a separate stuff sack. I tuck it into it's hood and cinch it down for packing purposes, works ok.
We bought a stuff sack at REI for it. The bag is about 9" high and about 4.5 - 5" across. (it's a cylinder shape) I think it would've fit in a smaller one but it packs in this size easily.
This is not specifically listed as packable, but it is decently packable.
It's packable, but not as small as Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer. Actually, I have not tried stuffing it in its own pocket, just the backpack. Great jacket at a bargain price.
Good question, but tough to answer. The jacket is packable and gets "pretty" small, but it is not as small or light as down. I know that is vague, but I hope that helps.
“The pictures definitely show two different jackets - or maybe two different generations of the same jacket. Colors 01 and 03 show a jacket with elastic wrist cuffs, no drawcords for the hood, and uniform baffling along the torso, chest and sleeves. Colors 05, 06, and 07 show velcro wrist cuffs, a drawcord/adjustable hood, and baffling on the shoulders/arms that is different from the torso. Has anyone purchased colors 05, 06, and 07 and can confirm those jackets have velcro cuffs and hood drawcords as pictured?”
To answer my own question I ended up purchasing the 05 color in this model. It does in fact seem to be a different jacket than described by other reviewers. This version DOES have hook/loop closures on the cuffs and does have drawcords for the hood. Very well made.
“colors 6 & 7 show velcro cuffs, is that accurate ? the other colors and description show elastic bound cuffs”
Interesting. I purchased color 4, brown moss. It does not have Velcro cuffs. I also noticed there is a draw string for the hood on 6&7. Mine has no draw string on hood, just elastic for cuffs and hood.
I have the black jacket and the cuffs are elastic, no velcro.
