Fine but not Amazing

I bought this coat after ripping my North Face 550 fill down jacket that I've had for 7 years or so. The coat was a good price and looks less marshmallow-y than my last, but doesn't compare in warmth or fit. At 700 fill, I thought this would be warmer than my North Face but it's noticeably less insulated. I assume this is an issue with the quality of the down, which I didn't pay too much attention to. Next time I'll look for a higher density down.

Fit is the other issue. The coat is tight in my hips and chest. I have almost no hips, so this was surprising. I bought the coat for my mom as a Christmas gift as well, and she had the same issues in a size up with the same areas. She returned the coat, as she wanted something she could layer and wasn't able to fit much underneath.

The coat also doesn't pack quite as small as I'd expect in a down jacket (though it's by no means bulky), which might be a consideration for serious hikers or backpackers.

For $112, this coat is fine and I'm happy with it, but had I paid more I would have returned it since I expect Marmot products to be higher quality than this.
