This backpack can go inside your luggage as a compression sack to reduce the volume of your clothes. When you get somewhere, you have a great daypack for your jacket, water bottle, and other items. If you want it to be lighter and more compact, you can pull out the closed-cell foam insert. If you keep it in, it makes it easier to carry the load and you have something to sit on while you eat your lunch. There's no hip belt, but there is a sternum strap, so it works for a heavier load than you might think. I carried about 10lb of dog food a mile from the grocery store comfortably. I gave two as gifts.
