Verified Buyer Reviewed by Tom from PA on Tuesday, January 3, 2017And I mean almost PERFECT. Two niggling little details: First, the zipper is not great. Hard to connect because the pulls don't match up well at the bottom and for some reason the lower pull (there are two) slides up during use and it makes it a bother to undo the zipper when doffing the coat. Second, the front of the hood doesn't reach up far enough to cover my chin when closed.
Aside from those two details, the coat is outstanding. The combination of synthetic and down, and their placement, make for a coat the breathes on strenuous climbs and yet keeps me perfectly comfortable at a walking pace. Never too hot (hiking in high 30s), never cold (hiking down to mid teens). It's like you're always at that point when you're ten minutes into the hike, you've warmed up and you know you dialed in the clothing choices just right. But it starts right away and doesn't end. The pocket placement above day-pack waist belt height are great. The interior pockets are well-designed and have good capacity. The hood adjustment is very simple and effective to allow good fit and movement with head turns. I wear it with a short sleeve merino baselayer when it's going to be mid-20s or above and long sleeve merino baselayer when colder. The coat is breathable enough that it dispels sweat quickly while retaining insulating properties, particularly in the arms, which I love. XL fits me very well at 6', 220, 38/32 pants and 46L jacket.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Average American Apparel Shopper from The United States of America on Thursday, December 22, 2016This is a fine down jacket. The feel is luxurious with the form just right to not appear excessive in the waist area. The down pockets are not sagging and the neck area adjustable to make for a secure seal.
