Good Buy On A Breathable Waterproof Jacket
Reviewed by Bicycling Grandma from Columbus, Ohio on Monday, November 4, 2013
This jacket was purchased to use when I get caught in the rain when I am bicycling. I wanted something more breathable than the el cheapo jacket I have been using. I have worn it a few times now and encountered my first true downpour the other day. I stayed completely dry (worn with a pair of Columbia "Titanium" pants bought form STP last year). It fits nicely into its own "stuff-sack" pocket. It has armpit zippers that you can unzip while you are on your bike, although I will probably just leave them unzipped. It is not as breathable as Gore-Tex, but I will not pay the price for Gore-Tex and this jacket is breathable enough for me. I prefer a helmet cover so that my line of sight is not impeded, so the fact that the hood does not fit over a bicycle helmet was not important to me. STP did not advertise it as a bicycling jacket so I was not expecting it to do so. I am 5"7" and 150 lbs. and I purchased a Large. It has ample room to layer underneath and is comfortable. The hood works great off my bike. This jacket does make that slightly "crunchy" sound, but that doesn't bother me, as staying dry is my priority. I bought the turtle dove color which turned out to be such a flattering shade of iridescent cream (which should be pretty visible in the rain and goes with everything) that I will wear this jacket both on and off my bike. I really like it, especially at STP's great price.
