Great fit. Mesh inside adds to warmth over styles that are just shells. Outside is soft fell not nylon feel.
My husband also likes bright colors, this came in bright green. So many mens items are in boring colors, nice to find some mens items with COLOR.

I am a big guy and my last jacket fit tight for a xxl. The Marmot fits very well and I like the length. As a fishing guide I am frequently on the water and in Florida showers in the summer months come up quickly and dump lots of water. I feel that this jacket will continue to keep me dry.

The jacket arrived on time. It fits well and seems true to size. The seams seem to be well sealed, so I expect it is waterproof though I have not tested it yet. I'm pleased with the purchase and would recommend it to friends.

  • “what are the waterproof/breathability ratings for this product?”
Asked by Carolina Mom from North Carolina on 11/5/2016 8:41:15 AM
    • This item does not specifically list the waterproof/breathability ratings.
Answered on 11/10/2016 4:47:27 PM by Product Specialist Greg from Sierra Trading Post
    • I have the PreCip jacket, which has a breathability rating of 12,000 g/m^2/24hrs. The MemBrain fabric has a breathability rating of 25,000 g/m^2/24hrs. This means that the MemBrain fabric should have greater than twice the breathability than the PreCip. I wear the PreCip jacket over a zip-up fleece sweater in the winter while biking and I have to say that I can literally feel the jacket breathe, allowing some heat to escape so that I stay dry. I know it's not the wind as the jacket is windproof as far as my knowledge is concerned.

If you are wondering about what the g/m^2/24hrs means, I believe it simply means that one square meter of a certain material will allow (for the MemBrain fabric) 25,000 g of water to escape during a time period of 24 hours. I am personally looking at this jacket for the future in case the reviews about the PreCip jacket are correct - that after a couple years the material doesn't provide waterproofing anymore. Overall, although I do not own this jacket, I believe that it will serve as an excellent jacket for any active outdoor activity. The only thing I would look out for personally would be if it crinkles in cold temperatures - if it tends to stiffen up and make a lot of noise while moving in it.

About Marmot

Conceived in a university dorm room by a pair of climbing buddies, Marmot Mountain Works first opened its doors in the spring of 1974 in Grand Junction, Colorado. At the time, the base of operations was a 100-year-old stone building. That same year, the first Marmot down jacket was produced specifically for an action flick called “The Eiger Sanction,” starring legendary actor Clint Eastwood. In the four decades since, Marmot has continued to engineer reliable gear that exceeds the expectations of outdoor athletes. Today, Marmot tents, backpacks, outerwear, clothing and Marmot sleeping bags are still pushing the limits in the planet’s most challenging conditions, from the summits of the world’s highest mountains to the deepest river basins.
