Most Helpful 5-Star Review
The thing that I missed was that it includes built-in briefs, so its' good for a running (as advertised). I also sometimes wear it to the gym.

Reviewed by Power Walker from Vegas on Sunday, February 26, 2017I wear medium and large shorts usually with a waist of 34. I don't like long pants with inseam >32 and I don't like shorts that are at my knees or longer. I found these large Marmots to be huge in the waist and hitting my knees. Otherwise, they seemed to be nice shorts but overly big and baggy is not for my taste. If it was, these would have been 5 stars.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Andrei from Kentucky on Monday, August 22, 2016I bought these for trail running. I'm new to trail running. These shorts are great-comfortable, light weight.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by SJG from NYC on Wednesday, August 10, 2016Great shorts. Extremely light weight. Built in brief. Have used them for casual easy runs but for anything more serious I'd rather shorts that weren't quite this long...these go to just above the knee.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Texas Fly Fish from Texas on Thursday, August 4, 2016These have 9" inseams which, in a size medium (I'm 5'9") hit me at mid-knee. I prefer my running shorts above the knee. That being said, these are a high-quality pair of shorts.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by joseph from Florida on Wednesday, June 1, 2016Great fit. Liner is excellent. Material is light and breathes well. After getting 1 in the mail I bought 2 more. Length is perfect, to just above the knees.

I'm not sure that I fully understand your question, but the briefs are similar to underwear briefs.
It is a 'brief-type liner short' made out of a good quality mesh fabric. It is not tight fitting like a bike or spandex type liner short would be. It is not padded like the spandex shorts liner in a pair of biking shorts that I own. Hope that helps they are good shorts
These are two-tone shorts.
The Stride shorts do not have a zipper pocket.
