First, my wife sez this is the best looking spring shell I've had since the '80s, and that was an Obermeyer purchased in Aspen.
I took an XL and was hoping for a fit like I got. I'm 6'2" and 200 lbs and wanted enough room to layer and wanted some length.

First, my wife sez this is the best looking spring shell I've had since the '80s, and that was an Obermeyer purchased in Aspen.
I took an XL and was hoping for a fit like I got. I'm 6'2" and 200 lbs and wanted enough room to layer and wanted some length.
I tested it this morning at 38* and blowing with a softshell and T and it was very breathable combo, so it will do a nice job without pit-zips.
Hood took my XL Smith. The length will make it functional even on a spring powder morning.
I will hate beating the snot out of this! ;-)

Polartec neoshell is an amazing material. Waterproof like a hardshell, and it is almost as breathable as a softshell. Plus it stretches which is a big plus. Marmot makes a great jacket with the Zion jacket. Highly recommended.

It's still chilly and wet in the Northeast (April 2014). This soft shell is waterproof compared to an older "water-repellant" fleece. However the insulation of both jackets is similar--these are not frigid weather garments other than when doing aerobic activity or climbing. The Zion is a tight fit so layering is limited. I love the bright color since I'm a "visibility freak" for roads or mountains. I'm packing it for a May trip to some AZ/UT canyons instead of my all-weather Gore-Tex.

Another great product by Marmot and outstanding price and service from Sierra Trading Post. I used this jacket skiing in 30 degree temps and it was warm and comfy. I expect the same results in colder weather.

About Marmot

Conceived in a university dorm room by a pair of climbing buddies, Marmot Mountain Works first opened its doors in the spring of 1974 in Grand Junction, Colorado. At the time, the base of operations was a 100-year-old stone building. That same year, the first Marmot down jacket was produced specifically for an action flick called “The Eiger Sanction,” starring legendary actor Clint Eastwood. In the four decades since, Marmot has continued to engineer reliable gear that exceeds the expectations of outdoor athletes. Today, Marmot tents, backpacks, outerwear, clothing and Marmot sleeping bags are still pushing the limits in the planet’s most challenging conditions, from the summits of the world’s highest mountains to the deepest river basins.
