Most Helpful 5-Star Review

5.0 out of 5 stars. Fantastic soles, shoes take a while to break in,
Reviewed by Eastern Snowboarder from Massachusetts on Sunday, July 8, 2018
Wore these brand new on smallish hikes around Mt. Rainier, Squamish and Whistler.
Grip is excellent. Aren't sweaty - mesh.
Toe box is large on these regular width Merrell All Out Blaze 2 low hikers - a huge plus for me as I have cauliflower-ish feet.
I did need to remove the flimsy insoles these come with and put in non-custom active insoles. Mildly tight around the middle of the foot and days 2 and 3 were a right pain (literally throbbing feet, give yourself time) until the shoe conformed to my foot. Mild heel lift when descending rocks and during one session when I had to use a supporting rope to walk up an inclined rock face but at no time did these soles ever slip - excellent traction on mud, wet soil, exposed roots etc. NOT waterproof but they are water resistant and the mesh ensures they dry easily when one steps in truly muddy puddles.

  • 2.0 out of 5 stars. Seam Blow Out...

After roughly a year the seam blew out and the shoe is worthless. Not what I would expect from merrell.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Rugged Shoe

Shoe is size correct, my 10 fit like a 10. Toe box room for people that like that, or need it.
Very tough shoe, a cross between a full blown leather hiking boot and a trail sneaker.
Takes about 2-3 days to break in. Would buy again
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars. Narrow Fit

They're too narrow and hurt. I have a normal-to-wide foot. These shoes should be listed as narrow. I'm returning them.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Merrell All Out Blaze 2 Hiking Shoes (For Men)

I wanted something to complement my usual trail runners I use for long trips through the alpine. I was looking for something a bit more stiff and abrasion resistant. Haven't had these out yet as it is still backcountry ski season here, but I do believe they will fit the bill. Size seems accurate.

Good fit. Comfortable. Great closeout price.

About Merrell

The story of Merrell boots all started with a guy named Randy Merrell, who began handcrafting leather hiking boots back in 1981, shortly after graduating from industrial shoemaking school. By the mid-80s, Randy’s boots had already gained critical acclaim before being named “best boots in the world” by Backpacker Magazine. The next decade saw the arrival of new footwear, including the ever-popular Jungle Moc, which helped launch the after-sport category. Today, Merrell hiking boots, running shoes and sneakers are still among the best on the market, always combining the newest technology, innovative designs and outstanding comfort. Whether you hike, run, walk or just appreciate high-quality shoes and boots, we’re confident that you’ll love Merrell shoes.
