A miss from merrellReviewed by mnshopper from Minneapolis on Tuesday, September 25, 2018I was looking to replace a somewhat similar style of old Born shoes that are long past their prime. These are so cute but just not right. The oiled leather was scratched when they arrived which doesn’t bode well for wearing. I couldn’t keep the laces tied in the few seconds of trying them on (yeah I can replace them but how hard is that to get right out of the gate?). The tall leather part at the back is super stiff and dug into both heels - I can’t imagine how long that would take to break in. With the combination of hard soles and tipped up toes, I end up walking like I’m in snow boots: clomping around. The shoes folded at the top right over my MTP joints and the leather is so stiff it rubbed on the first step. While these do have a generous toe box and are plenty wide enough for my on-the-wider-side-of-medium-width feet when I sized up to my boot size 10 from my shoe size 9.5, there’s not enough cushion for my neuropathy. Unfortunately had to send these back.

Good casual shoesVerified Buyer Reviewed by PuddleSplasherPDX from Portland, OR on Tuesday, April 24, 2018I got these shoes for a casual option that would wear well with jeans, capris, shorts, etc. I got them in the black. So far, they've been really comfortable, and I think they'll hold up well to casual errand running, backyard social events, berry pickings, and the like. I wouldn't hike in them or walk a ton – at least not until they've been broken in more. The leather is a little stiff right now, but I think they'll loosen up. I usually wear a 9 or 9.5. I got these in a 9 and they're just right, even with a decent pair of SmartWool socks in them.
Perfect stlyeVerified Buyer Reviewed by JJ the Fitfreak from Atlanta, GA on Wednesday, April 18, 2018Love these shoes! Fit is comfy and they mold to foot easily. Enjoy the weatherproofing too.
comfortable casualReviewed by TLG from Minnesota on Thursday, March 29, 2018I will be wearing these on a European trip with a lot of walking. Good quality and quite comfortable so far in a non-athletic sneaker casual style. At first I almost returned them because as some reviews indicated the shoe felt like it had low volume in the toe box, especially on the top and side of first metatarsal joint, seemed stiff, and rubbed a bit awkwardly in the heel. However, I found all those problems were solved when I removed the insoles! The insole is very thick, especially under the heel, and contains a stiff shank through the mid-foot. Now they fit perfectly with a cushioned wool hiking sock and I much prefer the flat feel without the raised up heel (more like my Merrell barefoots). I just put in a thin liner insole, like "odoreaters", instead.
Merrell Ashland Shoes disappointingVerified Buyer Reviewed by Shelley from Texas on Friday, March 9, 2018Although the quality of the shoes is fine, the back of the shoe rubbed me raw on my left Achilles heel. The right one seems to be fine, but the left one seems to curve in and caused problems. I have the Merrell Ashland Chukka Boots which gave me no problems. That was one of the reasons I ordered the shoes. If I hadn't worn them for a test walk, I'd return them.
STP has lost it's grip on it's customersVerified Buyer Reviewed by LINDA from Vermont on Wednesday, February 14, 2018I've been a customer of STP for 12 years. I don't think I will be anymore. Two items of the four I ordered were off-size. And I've ordered products from both name brands many times here before. But, though these shoes were well-made, the sizing is off (too small). On top of that, the structure is so stiff that I can't imagine them being comfortable even if they did fit properly. I've also shopped TJMaxx for many years and I've seen a slippage in their products recently. I don't think this is a coincidence. They've gown too big and don't care about the people they are supposed to be serving.
Merrell Sizing is Off on This OneVerified Buyer Reviewed by Allenkb from Catlett, Virginia on Tuesday, January 30, 2018I wear Merrells and love them. I ordered a 8.5, which always, always works for me. They were too small. I exchanged them for a 9.0 and they were too big. Disappointed about that. However, Sierra Trading Post has been wonderful to work with during all of this exchanging.
I like themReviewed by rainydaywoman from Oregon on Friday, January 26, 2018The reviews look mixed on these, but I'm happy with them. I ordered the "bungee cord" color, which is a non-informative name, but the shoes look nicer than their picture. The oiled leather part is either a deep taupe or a medium brown without any red/yellow tones and the embossed suede along the sides is a medium taupe. The burgundy laces are a nice highlight.
They have some arch support, but you could add your own inserts if you need more. I wear a 9B, which is what I ordered and it fits me fine, but Merrells are usually good shoes for me. As another reviewer noted, you can adjust the laces to control the width to some extent. The leather seems to be high quality.
