So light (saves me a pound and a half) and trail-shoe-like I questioned whether they would offer enough support for backpacking with 30 pounds. I carried a 30 pound pack 8 miles yesterday with extreme ascent/descent and cobbled, rolling rock footing to decide if I would wear them or my heavier mids on upcoming 5 day backpacking trip. Required practically no breaking in, and run true to size. Good traction and surprisingly good ankle support. My only criticism is the soles may not offer enough protection especially going downhill with lots of weight. I think these will be great on more groomed trails with good to moderate footing. Probably good on any terrain with just a day pack, especially for you younger, fitter folk. On steep terrain with scree or "broken brick" footing I will need a heavier, stiffer boot.
