Looks cute but too high/painful in back of ankle

I tried on a 6.5 at our new Sierra Trading post store and they were abit snug on the sides (I have normal width feet). My big toe was also rubbing at the top so I bought a 7 (I normally wear 6.5 or 7's in most shoe styles). Sadly I ended up returning them due to the high back rubbing the back of my ankle. They should've been made about a 1/4" shorter and would be perfect. I even tried putting one of those sticky foam back pads inside but it didn't work due to the forward angle of the top of the back edge. Also in both inside and outside lighting, I noticed the right shoe stretch fabric was a different black tint then the left (almost a dark grey instead of black) but if I turned the right shoe upside down they matched. So they obviously cut the fabric in opposite ways. So sad as these are the cutest athletic flats I've found and I've been looking everywhere :(.
