I like merrils! I stand on my feet all day. Still figuring out the best size to get.I usually take around an 8 in other shoes. I bought the 8 1/2 this time. This feels good but my foot that is slightly bigger, the toe presses to the end when walking down hills, but the shoe does not bother me when standing around. I have been wearing Merrile slide mesh slip-ons and have a size 9. I like them but sometimes find them a bit large, but they are great in the winter with heavier socks. Not sure what size I will buy next time I get a shoe like this.
    • Pros: I like the arch support

I wanted these to work. Merrills usually run true to size for me but the high cut was not comfortable and they felt cramped in the toe box.
    • Cons: These felt stiff, Were not a comfy fit

This shoe looks great however it doesn't fit correctly. It fits well in the front of the foot to the arch, but at the ankle and heel it's too loose. I hiked Tuckerman's Ravine in them and they grip the rocks and trail well, but the back of the foot swims in these shoes. If the shoe fit better I would rate this product a 5.
    • Best Uses: Hiking
    • Cons: Too loose in ankle heel
    • Pros: Great Look, Great toe protection, Great tread that grips

  • “are they sized to wear with socks? Do they run true to size?”

    • You can wear socks with these and get your true size. If you wear really thick socks you may want to order half a size up.

  • “Is this Merrell appropriate for rainy or even some snow?”

    • These are not waterproof so your feet would get wet.

    • This shoe is not waterproof. It's ventilated for hot weather use.

    • They will handle a little, but you wouldn't want to spend much time in either in these shoes. They're well ventilated, so won't keep your feet dry long term.

About Merrell

The story of Merrell boots all started with a guy named Randy Merrell, who began handcrafting leather hiking boots back in 1981, shortly after graduating from industrial shoemaking school. By the mid-80s, Randy’s boots had already gained critical acclaim before being named “best boots in the world” by Backpacker Magazine. The next decade saw the arrival of new footwear, including the ever-popular Jungle Moc, which helped launch the after-sport category. Today, Merrell hiking boots, running shoes and sneakers are still among the best on the market, always combining the newest technology, innovative designs and outstanding comfort. Whether you hike, run, walk or just appreciate high-quality shoes and boots, we’re confident that you’ll love Merrell shoes.
