I've only had these a few weeks, but they've performed admirably so far. Fit was perfect and they were comfortable right out of the box - no need to break them in. They're well-padded all around, especially in the soles. The insoles that came with them are comfortable enough that I won't need to buy... Read More

These shoes are very good. The traction is ridiculous, they garb everything. Lacing is easy and they stay tied. The ankle reinforcement is very rigid and after four months of use, they almost look like brand new. Only problem is they run a little warm. After a day of hiking, anyone in the tent will not be happy when you take them off. I have started changing socks, twice a day and that helps.
They are priced right, work like a dream but make stinky feet when it is hot out. For the style, grip and stability, that is an easy trade off.

Standard low hikers. Good quality shoes. These shoes provide good cushion and decent support. Extra cushion means less ventilation - standard trade off. I have bought new hikers 2-3 times a year for the past 10 years. I have tried most brands. These rate about an 8 of 10 compared to others I have tried.

great shoes, much cheaper than stores. Did have to wait until had my size in stock but worth it.

Only had them a couple weeks, worn a hand full of times, but initial impressions -

More bootlike than I was expecting, thicker and heavier like a boot.

Not as ventilated as I was expecting.

Toe box is a little for tighter than I was expecting. Not uncomfortable really, but have to wear a thinner sock.

Hopefully with more wear they will loosen up a little.

Seem well made and should last a while I would think.

These shoes support my feet well. They are roomy enough for my orthotic inserts. I am a woman, but Men's shoes fit me better because the toe box is larger.

  • “Has anyone treated them with a durable water repellent such as Scotch Guard?”
Asked by rosstaman from Washington on 8/12/2017 8:40:50 AM
    • You could, but any waterproofing is only as waterproof as the material itself is. A spray-on product cannot possibly totally waterproof to the exclusion of all water. You'd need golashes to accomplish that.

    • Yes. That works fine and helps protect the leather parts without affecting the ventilation.

    • It is a little hard to get a measuring tape inside the shoe at the ball of the foot where it is widest, but if I measure the insole it is 3 3/4 inches. a tape measure inside the shoe is fairly close to this, but again it is hard to do this accurately.

  • “My shoe lace broke after only wearing them a week, Do they make replacement laces for them?”
Asked by Greg from South Carolina on 5/13/2017 12:25:41 PM
    • Don't know. I actually had to return the shoes due to size. Most shoe laces are terrible. I suggest you buy a pair that have grip and are not purely nylon.

    • Greg, There are laces sold on Ebay that can replace your laces. I highly recommend the Lock Laces, a no tie option available at locklaces.com

    • While I don't think you'll need OEM replacement laces for your shoes, you might consider paracord. My laces didn't break, but I replace all my shoe and boot laces with paracord as soon as I get them. Certainly more reliable and much more functional. And if you get a cool looking paracord (mine has the colors of fall; yellow, brown, red, and orange,) you personalize your kicks a bit...

    • No these are not the waterproof version.
Answered on 4/27/2017 12:39:20 PM by R Stephan from Columbus Ohio
    • Not even close. They're actually UNwaterproof. They're a lot like Keen's sandal/shoes in that the mesh portion is basically there to keep out skree/pebbles/sand, etc. Basically, if you step in water that's deeper than the sole, your foot will get wet. Consider, though, that in warm weather, your feet sweat. Waterproof footwear will trap that moisture. A good ventilated shoe, like the Merrell Moab Ventilator, will better allow your socks and feet to dry.

    • Not waterproof - they are actually very breathable and well vented

About Merrell

The story of Merrell boots all started with a guy named Randy Merrell, who began handcrafting leather hiking boots back in 1981, shortly after graduating from industrial shoemaking school. By the mid-80s, Randy’s boots had already gained critical acclaim before being named “best boots in the world” by Backpacker Magazine. The next decade saw the arrival of new footwear, including the ever-popular Jungle Moc, which helped launch the after-sport category. Today, Merrell hiking boots, running shoes and sneakers are still among the best on the market, always combining the newest technology, innovative designs and outstanding comfort. Whether you hike, run, walk or just appreciate high-quality shoes and boots, we’re confident that you’ll love Merrell shoes.
