I use shoes like this primarily for active daily use, not specifically and solely for hiking. I've had them for a week and have walked quite a few miles in them already. The fit is true to size and the shoes are very comfortable right out of the box. They are solidly supportive low-cut hiking boots but are light enough to wear casually. I love the Vibram soles which provide great grip even in wet conditions. These boots are not waterproof; I specifically shoes non-waterproof because I hope they will be cooler and c'mon, they are low-cut (below the ankle) so even if they were GoreTex or such they wouldn't be very good at keep dew or rain water off your socks and feet. Overall I am very pleased with the fit and comfort. The boots appear to be solid enough to use for moderately difficult day-hiking trail use although I prefer a heavier higher-cut boot for rocky, difficult terrain or when carrying a heavy pack. We do a lot of day hiking on the near-by AT and I wouldn't hesitate to wear them for that adventure.
