To say I am pleased with these shoes is an understatement. Unbelievably comfy and took absolutely no time at all to break in. I wore them hiking back to back days in the North Carolina mountains. It had snowed that previous week, but then quickly warmed up to the 40s-50s. The ground was somewhat mud... Read More

  • Comfy Boot
Reviewed by Tonja from Minneapolis on Thursday, March 22, 2018
I ordered these boots for my daughter to go on a hiking trip to Colorado. She normally wears an 8 shoe so we went with the 8.5 to make room for wool hiking socks. They fit perfectly and she had no issues with rubbing or blistering. They were comfortable the whole trip and the bit of purple added a nice ladylike touch.

I usually wear 8 - 8.5, so I ordered a 9 in these. They fit pretty well, feel a little big but I'll wear thick socks for hiking so I guess they're good.
  • Too much arch support

These looked like good hiking boots, but for me they had too much arch support on the sides. I ended up liking the feel of a Vasque shoe better.
  • Great hiking boots!

I got these for an upcoming trip to Yellowstone. Right out of the box they were great. I like that they are lightweight and provide good support. I also have these in the hiking shoe version and I couldn't be happier. I also got them for a great price here at STP.

  • “Are they waterproof? Assume not ”
Asked by Mari from Indiana on 4/2/2017 8:43:47 AM
    • Hello! These boots are awesome but they are NOT waterproof. They do not have GORE TEC which gives them the waterproof protection. Merrell does carry a waterproof version for about $20 more. Totally worth it. I recommend Merrell Moab Mid Waterproof. Siren has a waterproof version too. If the description does not say it. Then your assumption is correct- they are not and vice versa. Hope this helps!!

    • CR- Thank you very much for your detailed facts and recommendation. Was interested in these b/c of the name "Ventilator"...thought they might be a cooler choice for my feet during esp. hot days on a long hike. (For hikes I have Columbia boots & Asolo both). Thanks, CR

    • They are water resistant, not proof. Meaning that if water were to splash up onto the shoes, your feet would stay dry. If you were to submerge the shoe, your feet would not stay dry! Hope this helps.

About Merrell

The story of Merrell boots all started with a guy named Randy Merrell, who began handcrafting leather hiking boots back in 1981, shortly after graduating from industrial shoemaking school. By the mid-80s, Randy’s boots had already gained critical acclaim before being named “best boots in the world” by Backpacker Magazine. The next decade saw the arrival of new footwear, including the ever-popular Jungle Moc, which helped launch the after-sport category. Today, Merrell hiking boots, running shoes and sneakers are still among the best on the market, always combining the newest technology, innovative designs and outstanding comfort. Whether you hike, run, walk or just appreciate high-quality shoes and boots, we’re confident that you’ll love Merrell shoes.
