I am familiar with the "world" series of shoes from Merrell and find them to be comfortable walking shoes with a large toebox. I have had foot surgery in the past and these shoes seem to provide the most comfort. It seems however, that Merrell keeps discontinuing certain shoe models so it is always getting harder to replace with a similar product.

    • Cons: Merrell discontinues item

The soles don't have much of a pattern but they don't slip. The rubber sort of grips smooth surfaces. Not a bad shoe.

They say a journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step... These would be great to take that first step in. (Myself, I always like to start my journeys by buying a good pair of shoes.) These are fine shoes. (Of course -- they're Merrells, after all.) Not so light as maybe you'd pack for traveling, but durable and fine-looking, really well made with strong stitching and secure tongue. That's the strong suit: looks and durability, and reasonably good support & comfort. As long as you stay indoors or within cities, they're fine.

Here are the only faults I found: They look a bit more boxy, from above, than the photos show. I have quite a few pairs of Merrells, but these fit a bit loose. That could be due to the slick footbed, however, which is similar to what you'd find in a fine leather shoe but not what I expected in Merrell's more boot-like past. (Wear a thicker sock.) The non-lugged, non-marring sole may not be the best in wet climates or on rough ground; dry sidewalks/streets will be fine. Better cushioning and support than most "normal" casual/dress shoes, but if you do a lot of walking as a traveler (or carry weight), you're better off with more of a boot: this is a good compromise. And at a really good price.

My husband loves these shoes! They are definitely top-of-the-line Merrell's and the price can't be beat. He has wide feet with low arches and these accommodate both very well.

About Merrell

The story of Merrell boots all started with a guy named Randy Merrell, who began handcrafting leather hiking boots back in 1981, shortly after graduating from industrial shoemaking school. By the mid-80s, Randy’s boots had already gained critical acclaim before being named “best boots in the world” by Backpacker Magazine. The next decade saw the arrival of new footwear, including the ever-popular Jungle Moc, which helped launch the after-sport category. Today, Merrell hiking boots, running shoes and sneakers are still among the best on the market, always combining the newest technology, innovative designs and outstanding comfort. Whether you hike, run, walk or just appreciate high-quality shoes and boots, we’re confident that you’ll love Merrell shoes.
