The overall feel and design of the jacket are great just wish I could wear it. I ordered a large and was shipped a XS. Told they were out of stock on every size at the time of error. Oh well hope someone else gets the jacket and I get my refund.

This seems like a good quality jacket. However, the collar is very stiff, to the point where i could not stand to have it zipped up all the way. The stiff zipper and front seams were also such that they bowed out in a strange and extremely unflattering around the abdomen. I returned it.

This winter has been so cold, I wanted a nice looking as well as very warm jacket. I love this, it fits well, is light weight, and keeps me warm. I went with the large from reading reviews, (would normally get xl) as I don't like feeling restricted. The large worked out fine.

It just arrived today. I tried it on immediately, and was pleased to find it fit perfectly. I read the previous reviews and ordered a large. (I usually order XL). I love all the convenient features, extra pockets, zippered pockets and added Velcro to closures. It is nice and lightweight, and I am sure it will keep me warm here in Minnesota. Thanks Sierra, this is a real winner!

Great down jacket for the coldest days. Fit is slightly large. You can layer with your typical size, for a slimmer fit go down a size.

  • “is this a good jacket for sub zero?”
Asked by dee from West Virgina on 1/24/2014 3:14:32 PM
    • Gave this jacket as gift to daughter living in Montana...She says it's cozy warm, comfortable, and love's it in the winter conditions... I would assume it would work in sub-zero...of course, I would always layer instead of solely relying on a single jacket to stay warm in extreme sub-zero temps.

    • I have worn it in subzero just a few times since receiving it and it's been awesome. I live in the mountains of Maryland. So it has been particularly cold for our region in the last few weeks and this is my Goto jacket for every occasion.

    • While I love this jacket, I'd have to say it is not good for sub-zero. I have learned to abandon it at around 8-10 degrees, even with sweater underneath. They do a great job with the hood, that part would be perfect for sub-zero. But the sleeves just don't have enough insulation for those temps.

    • Absolutely. I have been out in temps as low as -17 with a -45 wind chill and felt nothing but warmth in this jacket. If you happen to be in a turtle neck/wool sweater combo under this coat, you could take a hike across the artic circle with no worries on staying warm!! This coat rocks.

    • I have been wearing this jacket all winter and we have had a cold one with average temps 10 to 25 below zero at is toasty. I love the down hood and high neck and long back that covers my backside well. The only problem I have had is my rings catch the seam threads on the inside of the sleeves so I have to remember to either take my rings off if I am wearing the jacket or put my gloves on first so they do not catch and pull the threads.
Everywhere I go I get compliments on the color. It makes me feel very cheery on these glum days of winter.Ad

About Mountain Hardwear

Starting back in 1993, a small group of outdoor industry mavericks broke away from the pack to follow a less-traveled path. From the very beginning, the primary goal of Mountain Hardwear was to create an outdoor gear brand with a sharp focus on technology-driven design, superior performance and hardcore reliability. The result of this function-first mentality has been an array of incredible Mountain Hardwear jackets, clothing, tents, backpacks, sleeping bags and accessories. Today, after more than two decades of industry-leading innovation, Mountain Hardwear continues to set new benchmarks for dependability in the toughest conditions on the planet.
