I liked the color of this dress quite a bit, but wound up sending it back for a couple of reasons. First, the waist is very short - almost an empire style, and too short for me. Second, the fabric is pretty thin, too thin for work - maybe for a beach dress or a casual coverup, but not for even a casual office. So I was sad to send such a pretty color back, but I did.

I like most of what Mountain Hardware rolls out, so I decided to give this dress a try based on the price and design.

The actual design of the dress is very nice: the v-neck, longer sleeves, and hemline are all flattering. As expected, the sizing was on the smaller side (something Mountain Hardware seems to consistently do with their women's wear.)

The color of the dress, on the other hand, was an absolute no.

The black is fine – the "stripes" are the offenders. The product photo led me to believe they would be white. In reality they are yellowish, somewhere between Cream (#FFFDD0 for those inclined to google hex color codes) and Lemon Chiffon (#FFFACD). As a blond with yellow-tinged skin and pale eyebrows, this was the opposite of flattering. Back in the box it went.

Would probably look flattering on someone with darker hair/skin, or someone who can pull off yellows. ;-)

5'8" –– 160 lbs –– athletic build. Medium fit fine.

This dress fits well, I ordered a medium, 5'5" 148 lbs athletic build. I have broad shoulders, often this type of fit makes me look like a linebacker. This does not have this issue, but the shoulder fit might be large for people who don't have this issue. Overall nice, very strong ink smell from the fabric, this is a dyed print not bleached.

Love Mountain Hardwear products. Nice wash/wear dress for travel. The small fits me well (5', 115 lbs).

I like this dress and bought it for travelling (in black). It dries fast and does not seem to wrinkle. I wear a size 10 and the medium fit well. I would have given it 5 stars except the light bands in the front do not line up with the bands in the back.

  • “Is the crossover top stitched shut? I'm looking for something you could breastfeed in.”

    • No it's open! I think it would work well for nursing. It lays flat and isn't super low, but I think it would stretch to accommodate. Good luck!

About Mountain Hardwear

Starting back in 1993, a small group of outdoor industry mavericks broke away from the pack to follow a less-traveled path. From the very beginning, the primary goal of Mountain Hardwear was to create an outdoor gear brand with a sharp focus on technology-driven design, superior performance and hardcore reliability. The result of this function-first mentality has been an array of incredible Mountain Hardwear jackets, clothing, tents, backpacks, sleeping bags and accessories. Today, after more than two decades of industry-leading innovation, Mountain Hardwear continues to set new benchmarks for dependability in the toughest conditions on the planet.
