This shirt is minimal, ridiculously light and does a great job of blocking wind and resisting light showers, tested on my windy and occasionally rainy bike commute. I like the long drop hem and fitted hood. It is not breathable, but that's kind of exactly what I want out of a wind shirt. The waist cinch is the only weird part. Usually cinches for shirts/jackets are at the hem, but this one is above the waist, so it doesn't prevent the garment from riding up, which is a thing that happens while you bike. I suspect they made this decision because it reduces the flapping that happens when you're facing high winds, and when it comes to the flapping vs riding up trade-off it's a difficult choice but I think they did it right. Got it on sale with a coupon so it was a great deal!

I'm 5'11, 150, and got this in an XL to fit over anything/everything. The arms are quite long, which I LOVE since women's jackets often are too short in the arms for me. It's extremely lightweight and packable, of course, as advertised. I find that I grab it every morning for my walk because I"m comfortable in it whether the temp is 40 or 60 when I wear the appropriate shirt or jacket underneath. I bought it to block wind (which is does) but also found two unexpected bonuses in regard to wind. First, the drawstring in the upper hip area is perfect for tightening it enough that wind doesn't sneak its way UP and under my shirt. And second, I wear the hood under my stocking hat and wah-lah no more wind on the back of my neck (neck gaiters tend to shift and wind sneaks in). This is really a fabulous handy piece for anyone who is outdoors in unpredictable weather. Although it's not rainwear, I think it would also hold up ok in a light rain, at least long enough to get you home. When I stuck the arm under the kitchen faucet for a couple minutes, water beaded up nicely on the outside and didn't penetrate.

Very light, and easy to carry. Perfect for adding a bit of wind protection over fleece or underlayers. I would have given it five stars but the fit is classic Mountain Hardwear: tight in the arms and shoulders. Had to get a large which means the sleeves are long on me. Otherwise, a great piece to always have in your pack (or pocket).

About Mountain Hardwear

Starting back in 1993, a small group of outdoor industry mavericks broke away from the pack to follow a less-traveled path. From the very beginning, the primary goal of Mountain Hardwear was to create an outdoor gear brand with a sharp focus on technology-driven design, superior performance and hardcore reliability. The result of this function-first mentality has been an array of incredible Mountain Hardwear jackets, clothing, tents, backpacks, sleeping bags and accessories.
