This jacket in blue is gorgeous and it was a very hard decision to return it. The color and cut are great. But it's just too lightweight for a winter outer layer, which is what the husband needed. This is a mid-layer and a very nice one, at that. Just not what he needed.

I purchased this down jacket primarily to use as a compressible jacket that I could take camping, day hiking or back packing. The down is treated with Q-Shield that will prevent the down from taking on water and losing its loft when it is exposed to water. Remarkably, i was able to purchase this jacket with STP discounts for less than $80.00. It even comes with the Mountain Hardwear "no questions asked" life time guarantee.

Bought this for my husband, He says, Great coat - can pack up into its own pocket. It is lightweight and warm. Great coat to wear on it's own or under a shell. Arms are long - 6'4 with long arms and lean, the XL fits a little wide but the arm length is good. Good for layering. Another great Mountain hardwear coat.

I had a nice Merrell Down Jacket I loved that was needing to be replaced after a few years so I set out for a replacement. After lots of review reading and checking, I ended up here with the Mountain Hardwear Jacket. I like the materials and it seemed a little water repellent right out of the box. The fit is a little larger then my Merrell and it wasn't as contoured but still a good fit. The hood is a nice fit that doesn't need any drawstrings to stay in place. I tested it by taking the dog for a walk on a nice 10 degree windy night with just a long sleeve t-shirt underneath. The jacket did a pretty good job blocking the wind but not perfect but the warmth was very good and I was comfortable from start to finish which I can't say for the warn down Merrell I have (not as warm as it was a few years ago). I think this will be a keep for a few years

About Mountain Hardwear

Starting back in 1993, a small group of outdoor industry mavericks broke away from the pack to follow a less-traveled path. From the very beginning, the primary goal of Mountain Hardwear was to create an outdoor gear brand with a sharp focus on technology-driven design, superior performance and hardcore reliability. The result of this function-first mentality has been an array of incredible Mountain Hardwear jackets, clothing, tents, backpacks, sleeping bags and accessories. Today, after more than two decades of industry-leading innovation, Mountain Hardwear continues to set new benchmarks for dependability in the toughest conditions on the planet.
