Better than I imagined it would be

At 5'6", 150#, I am a solid size 10. I don't like my clothing to be fitted or snug, preferring ease of movement and loose fit to style. That said, in this jacket #158NC-03 Medium fit but was not to my liking. Large is perfect. I can wear a sweater underneath this & it is still not too snug. It is slightly fitted in the waist so it doesn't look baggy or boxy. The nylon lining makes it so any arm coverings slide easily into the jacket sleeves. The sleeves are perfect for me which means they are probably on the slightly long side for the average person. The cut of this jacket is snugged up into the armpits but does not restrict movement. This was the same in both the Medium and the Large, but not bothersome. I have the "deep blush" color which I think is a pleasant shade of magenta-not a bright shade like fuschia would be. The elastic at the hips and wrists is enough for keeping cold air out but not so much that if feels confining. There is a toggle at one of the sides which can be pulled to snug up the hip area if desired. I tried the styles with and without the hood #158NC-02. They are both exactly the same style but I wanted the extra warmth and protection that a hood provides. The hood is neither huge nor baggy and again, the elastic is enough to hold the hood comfortably around my face, not tight. The zipper works great w/fabric at the top so it doesn't scrape at the neck at all. The pocket zips get caught in the lining requiring careful zipping up. I keep them unzipped because my hands are in my pockets during cold weather so no problem there. The thing that was really surprising to me was how warm such a thin thin thin jacket could be! The description by ST says that it has "40g Thermal.Q Elite insulation" which is incorrect; it actually has 60g insulation, making it one of the warmest non-down, low profile lightweight jackets available. When it arrived we had 28-31 degree gusty weather and snow falling. I went & just stood outside on the back porch to see if it was warm enough wearing only a t-shirt under it. I triple checked the thermometer because I didn't feel any cold at all except at my legs. My arms & trunk, neck & head were very very comfortable w/o any chilled feeling at all. Even now when I wear it I double check the outside temps thinking maybe it's not actually all that cold & that I'm over dressed. Nope, it's the jacket that is sooo warm! I recommend this jacket to anyone who wants a very light weight, warm, comfortable jacket to wear on a freezing day.
This jacket arrived at the same time as:
2 comprable REI style jackets (both Medium and Large were very fitted & not very warm-ok in 40 degrees),
and from ST:
Mountain Hardwear Switch Flip Jacket-insulated jacket #139KJ-02(Large was huge, the fleece extremely puffy & teddybear-looking, less warm-ok in 40 degrees),
Mountain Hardware Themostatic Jacket #109NC-02 which has a style similar to the Mountain Hardwear MICRO Thermostatic Jacket above-fitted, with a less protected neck area & w/a contrasting zipper that stands out a lot, ok in high 30's
Mountain Hardwear Micro Thermostatic Jacket #158KT-02 which has only 40g insulation, fitted, less warm, made from material has a very noisy crinkle sound w/any movement.
