I always like Mountain Hardware for their quality and durability. I also own The Northface thermoball jackets and vests and would say this jacket is comparable in warmth and packability. I saw the exact same jacket at a local ski shop and also Nordstroms almost $50 more. Jacket runs true to size . A... Read More

I bought this for my father. He wanted a "puffy". It is a good jacket for around town on chilly days, summers at the oregon coast or hiking the high peaks in late spring. All of which my octagenarian father does.

This is a well-made jacket, but it is a little boxy and therefore loose around the hips. Nothing wrong with it overall, just didn't like the fit, so sent it back in favor of a Yeti.

I couldn't find a label stating that this is the Nitrous jacket. On the MH website, the Nitrous jacket has 800 fill (http://www.mountainhardwear.com/mens-nitrous-down-jacket-1585281.html?cgid=mens-jackets&dwvar_1585281_variationColor=402).
At STP the description says 700 fill.
It is way not as worm as my Marmot 650 fill jacket.

It looks more like this product: http://www.mountainhardwear.com/mens-micro-ratio-down-jacket-1560841.html?cgid=mens-jackets&dwvar_1560841_variationColor=489

This is my first bad experience with STP.

In my opinion, this is at most 500 fill. It is way not as worm as my Marmot 650 fill jacket.

I've been shopping at Sierra Trading Post for years. This Nitrous down jacket is perhaps the nicest single item I've ever purchased. The feel, appearance, and quality are all five stars. I'm a pretty chunky 5'10" , 205 lbs. The size Large fits me perfectly. I wear it here in Pennsylvania as a car coat in all but the very coldest weather. The Nitrous down jacket has become my go to jacket. If you are looking for a down jacket, don't hesitate to give this one a try. You'll be glad you did.

    • They say it stows in it's own pocket but I have not tried it myself. It seems light enough that you could pack it easily. It might have been better if it came with a small back for packing.

    • Thanks Smokey for the answer. Can I ask if you're speaking from experience, i.e., you bought the jacket from STP and realised that it's the same as the backcountry.com jacket? It's not just the fill power that's different, it's also the total weight (13 oz vs 13.8 oz). It's not like I care about the extra 0.8 oz, but I would like to make sure that I'm buying the right thing.

About Mountain Hardwear

Starting back in 1993, a small group of outdoor industry mavericks broke away from the pack to follow a less-traveled path. From the very beginning, the primary goal of Mountain Hardwear was to create an outdoor gear brand with a sharp focus on technology-driven design, superior performance and hardcore reliability. The result of this function-first mentality has been an array of incredible Mountain Hardwear jackets, clothing, tents, backpacks, sleeping bags and accessories. Today, after more than two decades of industry-leading innovation, Mountain Hardwear continues to set new benchmarks for dependability in the toughest conditions on the planet.
