This is a great belay jacket. Even though it's synthetic filled, which unfortunately means it has a finite life expectancy for its insulation properties, it nevertheless is a great purchase at the sale price. I'm 5'11" and weigh 196 and comfortably wear my MHW Nilas jacket underneath it. Granted mov... Read More

Decent design concept and materials, however, I think the manufacturing is where it falls short. The insulation is heaviest around the torso below the chest which makes it look like you are wearing a padded corset underneath...not a flattering fit. It runs slightly large which works for layering. I wanted to keep it for snow time in Tahoe but I looked goofy wearing it so I returned it. The insulation issue could work over time with use or washing...didn't want to chance it.

This is a good rainproof clothes, and very warm.
But the clothes are slightly larger, need to pay attention to the size.

This is a really nice jacket, a bit parka like because of its length, but sizing is odd. I usually wear a Med or Large, depending on brand and cut. I'm 6'0, 160 lbs. I ordered both a Med & Large in different colors. The Large is huge. Even the Medium is too big. Usually Med is a bit tight on me. It is long in the body and long in the arms, which does work for me, but the body is loose too. I will return the Large, which is really more like an XL Tall. I decided to keep the Medium which I can wear with a down puffy underneath for skiing in really cold conditions. The hood is extra large, designed to work over a helmet. Again, OK for skiing. I have a couple other Mountain Hardware jackets and sizing on this one is very different.

I originally ordered a large in this jacket as almost all of my outerwear is size Large. I'm 6ft, 190. The large was somewhat big in the body but the sleeves were well onto my fingers. I returned it for a medium and the sleeve length is good but it is slightly snug. Layering underneath will be difficult. I did decide to stay with the medium. Overall quality seems quite good as is the case with most Mountain Hardwear products that I have owned. I think the jacket will work out well in all but the coldest conditions I'll face on any regular basis.

I purchased the jacket to play in the snow with my children. I have worn it hours in the snow on Mt Baker and was amazed on how well it kept me comfortable. I wore a med baselayer and sweat jacket and I was never cold and always comfortable. I have also worn the jacket in heavy rain and stayed completely dry but never clammy. I am 6ft 1in/240 and 2X gave me lots of room to carry a utility belt and move freely. I don't wear tight clothing so I could have not been more pleased. The functional use of the jacket was great and I was not accustomed to the light weight accompanied with that level of warmth. Great Jacket!!!
