I purchased two Salida daypacks, one for myself and the other for my fiancé. We were looking for the compartment space, comfort and durability that a hiking pack offers without a frame and that's exactly what we got! I highly recommend anything made by Mountain Hardwear.

Nice pack and well built but too small for my needs. Only two compartments and I need 3. Well made but returning

I bought this to take a laptop to work, a few books and a notebook to an evening class and hold my usual urban stash of cellphone, IPOD, book, magazine, mobile office stuff. I think the size is great as an urban purse but I'm a bit concerned with the workmanship. Its not as nice as Mountain Hardware of the past. I guess if it holds up then that would be ok but new it doesn't quite inspire confidence. I don't want to spend another month trying to find one so I'm using this and will revisit buying another in a year if this starts to fail. I do like the bungie cords.

Bought the Salida to replace a North Face backpack that had worn out. Chose the Salida due to prior use of Mountain Hardware equipment, which I find well designed & well made. Wanted a backpack for longer day hikes that had a belt to better distribute the weight, instead of everything "hanging on my shoulders". The pack was very comfortable on 10 miles worth of hikes the l;ast 2 days, with good sized water bottle pockets that were secure, and easy access to the contents through the bi-directional zippers. Convenient lash tabs mounte on the external back pocket are nice for attaching small items. Would have given 5 stars if the waist belt were a little wider, with some padding. Overall, very nice backpack.

Very pleased with this backpack!! Just as described...very roomy and tough as nails!! Perfect for a day hike, school, or work. I also used it snow skiing in Jackson Hole. Would buy another one in a heartbeat.

  • “Does it have a padded laptoip sleeve?”
Asked by Erik from Rhode Island on 12/17/2014 3:17:07 PM
    • It has a laptop "pouch" which is lightly padded at the bottom for shock. I would not say it has a laptop sleeve but neither does the description. You are better having your tablet or laptop in its own sleeve and putting that in the backpack to be on the safe side.

  • “1. Does it have a handle? I noticed in the first picture it doesn't but in the others it does.|2. Is the waistbelt removable?|3. Are the shoulder straps adjustable?||Thank you!”
Asked by Audrey from Unknown on 12/7/2012 12:00:00 AM
    • Yes it has a handle. The waist belt is not removable, and shoulder straps are adjustable.

    • The one I received from STP has two loops: one at the top and a smaller one below the bungee material. You can see them in the first picture. I think you are mistaking the top grab handle for the obscured shoulder strap. This is a nice day pack.

About Mountain Hardwear

Starting back in 1993, a small group of outdoor industry mavericks broke away from the pack to follow a less-traveled path. From the very beginning, the primary goal of Mountain Hardwear was to create an outdoor gear brand with a sharp focus on technology-driven design, superior performance and hardcore reliability. The result of this function-first mentality has been an array of incredible Mountain Hardwear jackets, clothing, tents, backpacks, sleeping bags and accessories. Today, after more than two decades of industry-leading innovation, Mountain Hardwear continues to set new benchmarks for dependability in the toughest conditions on the planet.
