Most Helpful 5-Star Review
Really phenomenal jacketReviewed by Sebastian from Boulder, CO on Wednesday, September 5, 2018I was a little weary about getting this jacket considering some of the problems mentioned in the other reviews, e.g. about small pockets and asymmetrical pockets etc. Well, I wonder if they got B stock because what I got does not suffer from these problems: the pockets are decently sized and symmetrical.
Another thing that had me weary was the...let's say interesting design with the softshell top and puffer bottom. Thankfully, in person the look is a lot more flattering. In fact, I will say that if you get this in the right size (form fitting) then it is actually really stylish. The puffer part looks like it's much larger than the softshell in the pictures, but it's pretty equivalent in person and so it doesn't look unbalanced at all.
As far as warmth: it seems to be very warm. I put it on in ~50* weather with some wind and it immediately warmed me up. I haven't had the chance to wear it in freezing temps yet but it feels like it would do the job. My chest and shoulders especially warmed up quickly.
Weight wise, it is not bad at all considering the insulation. You could definitely go lighter, but I don't know that you can go lighter with this much warmth without spending a lot more.
Movement wise I feel comfortable in a full range of motion.
As far as cons go, I have only found one, and that's that the cuff doesn't have closures. If you have thick wrists then you wouldn't even notice, but my wrists are fairly thin and I would appreciate tightness. Worse comes to worst and I will have to wear gloves with a thick wrist, but I think for the price and quality it's worth the trade off.
If I could subtract 1/2 a star for the wrist, then I would, but I don't think it's worth deducting a whole star. So overall considering the quality, style (fashion), warmth, and dexterity, I'm giving this jacket 5 stars.
I wear a medium normally (39" chest/33" waist/5'9") and this hugged my body perfectly.
Roomy but extremely tight at the waistVerified Buyer Reviewed by Kim from Mass on Monday, May 7, 2018I ordered small and all my jackets are size small. I measured the waste of this one compared to two of my other jackets and this one is over an inch more narrow. Maybe i got a B sample from Sierra trading post because it was difficult for me to combine the zipper ends. Also it does not stretch at the east so I may break the zippers. I’ll bring it to the Taylor and see if he can alter it.
The hood is out of this world. Best hood design I ever experience. There is a bendable metal visor up from so you can adjust to your liking. The rear drawcord is placed under my skull where the neck starts, so it don’t dig into my head like my other jacket. I really appreciate this.
Outside chest pocket opening is small as can be. I had a hard time inserting my iPhone X. The inside chest pocket is too small to be practical.
The hand pockets are asymmetrical. The right hand is big and covers a quarter of the jacket while the left hand pocket is only half the size. Why mountain hardware did this is beyond comprehension, but I’m not the expert who designed this jacket. However, the asymmetry made me suspect that perhaps I got a B sample from Sierra trading post. How could they sell a badly fitting jacket that’s asymmetric? Suspicious.....
Puffy and well insulatedVerified Buyer Reviewed by Kim from Mass on Monday, May 7, 2018Extremely narrow on the waste it was difficult to combine the zipper ends. I will definitely tear the zipper. I’m going to take it to the Taylor and see if he scan alter it. I measured the waste compared to my other winter jacket and this one was over an inch more narrow. Maybe I got a B sample.
The hood design is awesome! I can adjust it backwards to pull the sides from covering my eyes.
The yellow is dirty, not bright. It’s somber, kinda sad looking. There is puffy material right under the armpits so it makes me look like I’m skinny chested and have a big gut. Not flattering.
Inside chest pockets are tiny. Outside chest pocket opening is super tiny. Right hand pocket is bigger than left. It’s asymmetrical. Maybe I got a B sample because this jacket doesn’t fit straight.
very happy!Verified Buyer Reviewed by Loves the cold from Cali Coast on Saturday, February 3, 2018I researched this jacket pretty thoroughly before purchasing it, and it lives up to my expectations. Comfortable, I am very happy with the way it looks. My only concern is the construction of the two large pockets, they seem a bit flimsy, but time will tell how they hold up.
Efficient light WarmmmVerified Buyer Reviewed by Quality seeker from Maryland on Thursday, January 18, 2018I was skeptical of this jacket when it arrived. Very light. I am 5'9 170 43 chest broad shoulder. I ordered medium and it fits snug..but the better it keeps you warm. One upgrade would be if they put a bigger zipper. Otherwise perfect skiing coat.
Great jacket!Verified Buyer Reviewed by Anthony from IL on Thursday, January 18, 2018Love this jacket! It's very warm and lightweight. I live in Chicago and wanted something lightweight to wear in the winter. You can wear this comfortably in 0° F weather with just a t-shirt underneath (as long as you're active). It has 3 pockets inside the jacket which no one online anywhere I looked mentions. So that's a bonus. Based on the double zipper on the right pocket, I'm guessing you can pack the jacket into that pocket and it becomes it's own carry bag. It looks so much better in person than online which was a relief. There are drawstrings in the hood and bottom of the jacket to give it a better fit but the sleeves do not adjust. I would definitely recommend this jacket if you need a warm jacket with a hood.
tight bottomVerified Buyer Reviewed by skiier from California on Wednesday, January 10, 2018lots of room in upper jacket but way to small and tight around the bottom! I returned the jacket!
So warmVerified Buyer Reviewed by PNWhiker from Seattle on Tuesday, December 26, 2017Just got this and received 4 inches of snow at my house. This jacket has kept me super warm while playing outside with the dogs!
Stylish Jacket. Not packable.Reviewed by MtnManMitch from Virginia on Sunday, November 26, 20175'11'' 190 lbs. Purchased size medium.
First thing I'll mention is the fit: The jacket is definitely a little snug. Its tight enough that I think a large may have been better but I do like a tighter athletic fit and the large probably would have been too baggy for my taste. The medium fits me almost perfect when I am wearing just a T-shirt underneath but if a have a mid-weight layer on underneath this jacket is definitely on the snug side. Another important thing to note is that the insulation in the entire upper area covered by the Dry Q fabric is synthetic, meaning this jacket is not nearly as packable as other dedicated backpacking lightweight puffies. I think if your looking for a dedicated puffy jacket for backpacking I would look at a more packable option...but this is a sweet looking jacket for around town and on the ski slopes!
