I purchased this jacket from STP and have worn it over a range of conditions. It's surprisingly warm. I wore this on a day hike to the top of Mt. Pisgah in NC on 11/20/16. Temps at the start of the hike were 28F. Wind was blowing 15 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. At the top, there was constant wi... Read More

Its light weight, warmth, wind resistance, soft fabric and great-fitting hood made this jacket an instant favorite. Recently tested on a spring ascent of Mt. Whitney via Mountaineers Route, it kept me comfortable on the approach hike, while lounging in camp, and during the climb. The hood is well-designed and fits over a climbing helmet or bare head. I am 5-6, 130lb and the small fits well with room for layering without restricting movement. The orange color looks great.

A great little jacket with hood. Very comfortable. I will use this alone, as I would an expedition weight fleece or, as a layering system with a fleece underneath or rain jacket on top. I am 5'10", weigh 155 lbs and have a 33-34 waist. The medium fits me perfectly. And, it stuffs into it's own pocket!

I really like this jacket. Light weight and warm. I was a little reluctant to get one with a hood, but glad I did. Extra felixibility but when not in use, you don't know it's there.

I wanted a jacket similar to the North Face Thermoball and this fit the bill. Nice and light and good for medium warmth. Packs and compresses nicely. Mountain Hardwear jackets always fit a bit smaller than others but the large does the job. I typically wear a men's jacket size of 42-44.

    • I'm 5'7' 180lbs, same waist, 44 coat size. The large fits great given your requirements. This jacket fits nicely and true-to-size unlike other MH coats that run slightly smaller than average.

    • Hi Ken.
I'm 5'9 at about 160 lbs. Just take in consideration this jacket is a little bit fitted but I believe you should be able to wear a fleece under without any problem. All depend how much room you want to have under the jacket, if you get a Large I think you will have plenty of room to wear it with a thicker sweater or fleece and the Medium will look a little bit tighter.

About Mountain Hardwear

Starting back in 1993, a small group of outdoor industry mavericks broke away from the pack to follow a less-traveled path. From the very beginning, the primary goal of Mountain Hardwear was to create an outdoor gear brand with a sharp focus on technology-driven design, superior performance and hardcore reliability. The result of this function-first mentality has been an array of incredible Mountain Hardwear jackets, clothing, tents, backpacks, sleeping bags and accessories. Today, after more than two decades of industry-leading innovation, Mountain Hardwear continues to set new benchmarks for dependability in the toughest conditions on the planet.
