Worth every penny!

Decided to get my first pair of convertible pants for camping this season. Spent a lot of time looking at the other brands - Columbia, Mountain Hardwear, Ex Officio, and the private label offerings of a major outdoor product retailer.

The reviews for those other products talk about poor durability, poor construction, annoying things like those cheap adjustable built-in belts and shallow pockets. I tried a number of them on and they just all felt cheap.

I finally stumbled upon Mountain Khakis, and found a couple in-depth and glowing reviews on outdoor gear review sites. While a little bit more expensive than the other brands, these pants are worth every penny. I would pay full retail for them, which makes the fact that you can get them from STP at a great price all that much sweeter.

These pants ooze quality and attention to detail. The gusseted crotch and triple-stitched seams. The full belt loops with two loops right at the back. The color-coordinated zippers for the zip-off pants so you can match them back up to the right leg. The extra layer of fabric at the bottom rear of the pant so the material doesn't fray.

The pockets have mesh linings to dry quickly. There is a super-handy zippered side hip pocket, in addition to the zippered back pocket and two open front pockets. The pockets are nice and deep.

The pants dry super quickly and don't feel dirty even after many days of use.

My only complaint is that the shorts are just a little too short for me. I'd rather have 11" inseam instead of the 9" inseam. These sit right above my knee, which is good for walking, but when I'm sitting they pull back a little farther than I'm used to.

In the end, though, I really can't say enough about these. I liked them so much I bought a second pair from STP, even though they're the same color.
