I haven't had my Montainsmith Borealis bag long enough to have used it on an extended backpack or while flying but my intial reaction is that it is a thoughtfully conceived, well made bag. What I have come to expect from Mountainsmith. When I leave next week for an extended ski trip I am planning to to use it to carry my camera equipment but to also to replace my computer bag. I will have room for travel docs, e reader, shaving kit, an extra pair of socks and underwear. I is still light enough for an old guy to carry and fit into the overhead.

  • “is it water proof

    • I haven't had my bag out in the rain to test it but my guess is that it is water resistant. OK for short spells in light rain. If I were in a position where I was exposed to a longer heavier rain I would want an added cover for my the bag. Don't even think about protection while being submerged.
