Most versatile backpack ever

I used this bag for shorter backpacking trips and found it to be a superb combination of size and fit. It really sits well on your back and hips for scrambling and climbing. Because it is wider and flatter than most internal frame packs, it doesn't pull your center of balance back much at all.

Where it absolutely shone was on an 8 month trip around South and Central America. It held up to all kinds of busses, backpacking in Patagonia and Guatemala, beaches in Panama and Ecuador and on and on. It does a MUCH better job of keeping the weight close to you than in most travel specific packs. That means you have better balance and it is much more comfortable. Because it zips up, it is a much better option for travel than most mid-sized outdoor packs.

The outside pouch that snaps on has been great as well. It is very flat, in keeping with the weight distribution model, but I've found you can fit a fair amount into it and tie the straps to make it a backpack.

After all of that, it is still in great shape.
  • Pros: durability, Excellent fit with weight, Good size for 1-3 nights, Great for travel, Unzips for full access, Useful detachable bag, Zips can be locked closed
