Amazing pack at an unbeatable price!

I got my son a similar but somewhat smaller model (the Tour) of this pack and I was really impressed with it. So much so in fact that I got my own, and this is it. It's pretty huge for a lumbar pack, but it's all in how much you pack. You can fit both of them with shoulder straps and that's a very n... Read More

  • Looks Good so far

I had an off brand fanny pack that didn't wear well, so I bought this one, by a good reliable company. It indeed is really well made, and I have lots of hope for it, as their other products are quite durable and resistant to punishment. However, I won't know durability for sure for a couple of years. Only problem is that the one time I wore it, while skiing, it sagged down over my butt. I tried to quickly and unsuccessfully to adjust it waiting for the chair. I will try to adjust at home today, and expect I can fix the problem. 5 stars are for durability of this brand's products, and expectation that I can make it fit. One other thought is that it was bigger than I expected, but I could adjust to that, especially because bigger means more equipment storage.

Things become icons because they fill enduring needs. This pack pretty much defines the term. I have had the Tour version for a couple of decades. It transitions from woods to a few days in DC with ease. Now I have enough room to leave the check in at home. A tablet, my camera, a spare power source, and various cords all leave me with tons of room for efficiently packed overnight stuff. I've used it several times in the woods now and my camera fits safely and conveniently in the front water bottle pocket. I can be attached to the Mountainsmith monopod and shooting in under 45 seconds. Slow but usually enough to catch the wildlife I commonly shoot. Sorry guys, but you won't be seeing me back for another for many years. The Tour is still in perfect shape!

Bought primary fro travel and flying. Holds Ipad and other items wanted on a plane without taking up too much room under the seat. BIg enough to replace a day pack at the destination when working or sightseeing.

  • “The image makes this product look like the USA-mad Mountainsmith day that is no longer made, but the description cites made in Vietnam. Is it possible this is an error?”
Asked by Ben from VT on 5/8/2017 6:37:48 AM
    • According to our information, what is listed is correct.
Answered on 5/11/2017 11:50:57 AM by Product Specialist from Sierra Trading Post
    • The label says made in Vietnam. I have not seen one of the older one in person but it is similar to the pictures I have seen. IT has the mesh water bottle holders that will hold one liter/quart bottles. I have one of the newer smaller size lumbar packs and it has different water bottle pockets (it will not hold one liter/quart bottles).

  • “What can you fit in this? Would I be able to fit a 16 oz water bottle and a 2 cup pyrex, plus tissues and a tweezer, in the main compartment?”
Asked by D.D. from Tucson on 4/19/2017 1:47:36 PM
    • Yes. You can put to (up to) quart/liter bottles in the outside pockets also, but all of the items on your list would fit easily.

  • “What is the intended way to wear this item?”
Asked by Kimpossible from Pennsylvania on 11/28/2015 6:35:34 AM
    • IMO, with the not-included strapettes. One could manage without strapettes only with the lightest of loads. The shoulder strap is marginally helpful at best. YMMV

    • Like suspenders. They attach to the lumbar bag then go over the shoulders.
