Clasps do not close

I am an experienced hiker with a 1.5 year old Border Collie who is a seasoned trail dog. We had been using a small cheap dog backpack from Pet Smart and decided to upgrade. I ordered the smallest size because I read that they ran big. My BC weights in at around 45 pounds and these bags fit him really well. I can't imagine a "small" dog wearing these. My dog could carry a Yorkie in one side!

I read the reviews about the buckles not holding but decided to give it a try as it was on sale for cheap (we know why). Put it on dog and immediately noticed the chest buckle would NOT stay closed. The inner plastic buckle slid out as soon as I would click it closed. I rigged up another way to hold the chest strap on as the buckle was useless. The other buckles seemed to stay, but they don't have as much pressure. Closed the two abdomen buckles and cinched them down a bit. Cinched the compression bags and started on a moderate 1.5 mile trail through the Ozarks. First noted the bags were becoming loose around the abdomen and rotating on the dog as he walked. As we began to move through some boulders and do a little bit of climbing the bag would become so loose it was moving all over the place. This was even with me stopping and tightening it many times. The dog finally went through two boulders and then backed up and the whole pack came off.

The bags are very roomy, the dog was carrying my Primus pot system in one side and my Katadyn filter in the other. Very lightweight, but wanted to test out the full size of the bags.

I am sending these back to the company tonight.
