Good, entry-level trekking poles

These are some good entry-level poles. The nice thing about STPs offering is that this pole (which is Mountainsmith's 'Pinnacle') typically comes as a single, and are offered as two, here. They are a bit heavy, so not of much use for weight-weenies, but still a great option for budget-minded hikers and backpackers. They do have the anti-shock mechanism. They only come with the hiking baskets, but because they have the two-pin attachment system, you can get the snow baskets from Mountainsmith's website for a very reasonable price. Oh, and for those of you that have issue with leaving scratches on rocks vis-a-vis 'leave no trace,' they do have rubber caps which can be removed to expose carbon tips.

If weight is truly an issue for you, save up for a while. Otherwise, for half the price of a single Leki, Komperdell, or Black Diamond trekking pole, you can pick up a pair of these.
