Once upon a time, I could carry an 80 lb. pack on my back, and it didn't bother me. I'd pick up pieces of deadwood as I entered the forestal area, and I would leave them against a tree when I left. Not to carry the weight, but to serve as a sort of "four wheel" drive. Well, times have changed. The sticks of yore, are now replaced with lightweight, collapsible, replaceable tipped, wrist strapped, adjustable, form-fitted to the hand, space-travelling, works of art. To be sure, the sticks of yesterday are still there, standing, waiting, in case the modern contrivances fail. Like I say, though, times change. No longer a pair of, say, five pound staves. No longer an 80 lb. pack. Now, my burden is light.
