Good Function and ComfortReviewed by rvlusa from Salt Lake City on Wednesday, May 2, 2018Although I'm not crazy about the color and style, I have to say that they are comfortable on my feet and I bought them for walking, so I was more interested in function. I usually wear a size 8 1/2, but after visiting a New Balance store and getting my feet sized there, they recommended a size 9. I was in between a D and 2E width. I went with the wider size because I've been experiencing a lot of foot discomfort due to arthritis. I have to cinch them up a little more than usual to prevent the heel cup from slipping, but that done, they provide the necessary support and comfort I was looking for. When I add an orthodic foot bed they are even more comfortable, but I could easily do without. I don't really consider these "Hiking Shoes" because the sole does not have a very aggressive tread. Overall a good choice for function and comfort, if you can get past the styling.

Comfortable Shoe but Sizing is SmallVerified Buyer Reviewed by dos50 from Colorado on Monday, April 9, 2018I've been wearing NB cross trainer types of shoes for many years because of their comfort and durability and I've always worn a size 9 medium. In these NB 1300 hiking shoes I have to wear a size 9 1/2 medium (causing the one star deduction). The sizing difference aside these shoes are quite comfortable and seem to be built to NB's usual high standards. The waterproof feature is nice, although I have not yet tested for it. Also the insole is easily replaced which is important for me since I wear custom arch supports.
Nice shoesVerified Buyer Reviewed by Steve M Moose from Auburn on Sunday, April 1, 2018Overall I'm impressed with the shoe after about three weeks of activity. They combine the comfort of an athletic shoe with the utility of a hiking boot. Very good build quality and quite comfortable.
nice shoe but way too small toe boxReviewed by collie hiker from utah, colorado on Tuesday, January 30, 2018well built shoe. very stiff sole as you might expect for a hiking BOOT, not a hiking shoe. and, unfortunately runs narrow. ordered a 2E width, which in the New Balance line fits me just great, but no way this shoe is as wide as the other six pair of New Balance that i have that are marked 2E. i could've broken in the stiff sole and leather but not with the narrow toe box, which is probably even a narrow D.
