Arrived broken, no free return shipping--what?

Out of the box the upper part of the LCD numbers were not active. I called Customer Service and they told me that I had to pay for return shipping of this defective product! She said they will make the determination if the unit is damaged and perhaps they will credit me the return shipping...what? Amazon accepts its customer's judgement and pays the return postage. The customer service at STP used to be really excellent--since the ownership change it has declined markedly. These types of management decisions will ultimately reduce customer loyally and profitability. Sad to see what happens when a giant retailer like TJM buys a small entrepreneurial emerging company. I guess it just inevitable.
